Escape the Ordinary Birthday Set

Hi Angels!

I am back for another Monday inspiration creation featuring the Stamp of the Month Escape the Ordinary.

This card & gift set was actually published on Instagram about 2 weeks ago as part of my round 2 application for the FSJ Creative Team Application. I didn’t make the team this year but I so enjoyed creating the projects.  Let’s take a look at this fun birthday set:

Card Basics:

  • Whip Cream Card Base 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″  The card front is embossed with the Inspire Embossing Folder.
  • Snapshot die cut frame cut from Black Licorice with a Colorful Journey Patterned Print for the frame background.
  • Partial zebra stamped on Whip Cream in clear pigment ink & embossed with Black Embossing powder, die cut & tucked into edge of frame. Head & body of zebra are popped up with Journey Foam squares.
  • Happy Birthday sentiment stamped in clear pigment ink & embossed with black embossing powder on a 1 1/8″ x 3″ strip of Whip Cream. Sentiment piece is then wrapped with Licorice Twist twine & popped onto Snapshot frame piece.
  • Pop completed Snapshot frame piece at an angle onto card base.

Gift Basics:

  • Gift box is the FSJ premade Treat Box wrapped in our black & white Wrapping Paper.
  • Package is wrapped with Black Licorice Satin ribbon. The bow is made from the Special Day Organza ribbon & embellished with a Cottage Bloom die cut flower in Candy Apple with a Whip Cream center.

Don’t forget the free card tutorial available for this month’s stamp set. You can find it in the August 1st post.

Have a Fabulous Week! Make time to be creative or surprise a friend!

Escape the Ordinary Smile

Hi Angels!

Welcome to this week’s Stamp of the Month featured card – Smile. I had a lot of fun creating this card and I am sure it will bring a smile to the recipient.

A Clean & Simple design that is relatively easy, it’s main feature is how I popped up the elements. The center umbrella is triple layered to add a little more depth & interest. This side view shows the details.

Here are the card basics:  Beach Ball card base 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.  Pool Play mat layer 4″ x 5 1/4″ embossed with Above the Clouds embossing folder. The clouds are stamped with a Create-A-Palette in Lemon Drop, Beach Ball & Watermelon Fusion reinkers. The Umbrella & Smile were stamped in Black Licorice & colored with Color Burst Pencils. Die cut out the umbrella & 2 plain white umbrella shapes to form triple layer with Journey Foam Squares. Die cut the sentiment & ombre clouds with the cloud die. Layer all the pieces onto the card & sprinkle with Sparkle Silk. Quick, easy & fun.

Have a Wonderfully Creative Week!

Double the Fun Tutorial

Creating 2 cards with 1 technique.

Hi Angels!

I have been hard at work trying to come up with some fresh & innovative designs to share with you and also as a submission for the FSJ Creative Team.  It energizes my art to search for new ideas & techniques to inspire your creativity.

I had a lot of fun developing the Zig-Zag & Swirl background techniques but haven’t created much with them. I saw an idea on Pinterest that turned into these 2 cool cards using the Swirl background technique in one Gel Press pull. Let’s walk through how to create these.

Supply List:

  • 1 each Pool Play & Limeade Splash card base 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ folded in half
  • 2 Whip Cream pieces cut 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ and 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • Scraps of Turbo Teal, Electric Lime, Pool Play & Lemon Drop cardstocks for die cutting
  • 1 Create-A-Palette – mine is inked in Limeade Splash, Electric Lime, Lemon Drop, Cool Pool & Turbo Teal reinkers
  • Pool Play & Black Licorice inkpads
  • Gel Press
  • Leaf Pattern, Summer Branch & Special Days Tag Dies
  • Fiddle Leaf embossing folder
  • Sparkle Silk
  • Remarkable You & Thread Sketch stamp sets

On your Pool Play card base stamp Thread Sketch in Pool Play ink on front & set aside.

Take the 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Whip Cream card stock & die cut Leaf Pattern from it.

Using your Gel Press, swirl the Create-A-Palette over the surface. Carefully lay the die cut Leaf Pattern over the ink. Add the 5 1/4″ x 4″ Whip Cream over top of die cut & gently rub to transfer ink to both pieces. This will create your double print allowing you to make 2 cards. Here is a quick technique video on this step:

Attach patterned pieces to card bases. The negative print onto Limeade Splash & the Leaf Pattern die cut onto Pool Play. Sprinkle with Sparkle Silk & set aside.

Finishing the Cards:

Pool Play card __ A – using the elongated hexagon shapes from the Special Days Tag set, die cut large Lemon Drop & small Pool Play pieces. B – Stamp Lemon Drop piece in Pool Play ink using the Thread Sketch.  C – Stamp Sentiment of choice from Remarkable You in Black Licorice ink on Pool Play shape.  D – Layer shaped pieces together, sprinkle with Sparkle Silk & pop up with Foam Squares on card.

Limeade Splash card __ A – With Summer Branch die cut Turbo Teal & Electric Lime leaves.  B – Emboss Electric Lime piece with the Fiddle Leaf embossing folder. (Note: the embossed leaf piece will be fragile, handle carefully to prevent it tearing.) C – Adhere die cuts together slightly off set to create a shadow effect and attach to card. D – Stamp sentiment of choice onto card base in Black Licorice ink.

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to create & play with your art supplies.

Escape the Ordinary Be You

Hi Angels!

Welcome to week 1 of our featured Stamp of the Month Escape the Ordinary.  I will be featuring a new card design each Monday. Don’t forget to check out the August 1st post for the link for the free download tutorial of the bonus project.

For this week’s card I did a side cut out using the umbrella image. It can be a little challenging to do but with a few tips you can create a side cut in no time. Let’s take a closer look at the card. I popped onto my video program & did a short video close up. This video stuff is still kind of new territory so I am trying to see what I can do or not do successfully. For all the creating I do, my technical skills are minimal and it takes a bit for me to learn.

When deciding to do a side cut, you’ll want to first determine how many times the image can be repeated down the side of your card. I would practice on a card sized scrap first before working on your actual card. For Be You, I decided 3 would work. I took 5.5 inches, divided by 3 and came up with 1.8 and marked the card at 1 7/8″  from the top & bottom of the card. Then I angled the umbrella in the direction I wanted & stamped using my Create-A-Palette. I found stamping the bottom image first gave me a better spacing guide. I did use a small mask to keep the umbrella handle from overstamping the previous image. Then you need to decide how much of the edge of the image you plan on cutting away to give you a cut edge. With this image going from edge to handle was perfect. If you haven’t done this before give it a try sometime.

Here are the card basics: Whip cream card 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ with a Catalina Splash insert 4 1/4″ x 5/12″. Create-A-Palette inked with Liquid Color in Watermelon Fusion, Lavender Fusion, Cool Pool, Limeade Splash & Catalina Splash, sentiment embossed in my custom mix black embossing & Sparkle Dust mixture. Card base sprinkled with Sparkle Silk.

I hope you like this fun and cheerful card.

Have a Creative Week!

Christmas in July Inspiration

Hi Angels!

Now that the blog has had a bit of a refresh, my goal is 2 posts a week. Some weeks it’s tough but if I can do 2 videos a week, I can do 2 blog posts too. I haven’t figured out what days might be best for consistency but I’m working on it.

So most of this past week I have been working on my FSJ Creative Team Application. In between trying to choose items to represent my artwork, I was busy trying to figure out my creative resume & share a bit about me. My final project was this Christmas card using our new Christmas Sprig ATS with the sentiment from the Sparkle Trim stamp set. I have been practicing staging my photos a bit differently than just using my light box. What do you think?

Isn’t it lovely? It is very hard to pick up the shimmer and sparkle on this monotone style card with a hint of color. My secret to making it interesting is using layers & texture. I chose the beautiful new Rose Gold embossing powder for my focal images.

I used the Mystic Impressions embossing folder for the background sprinkled with Sparkle Silk. The pine boughs are from the new Branch & Cone die set. (Sorry it wasn’t available for the product view below. DI-0470 $16.95) I brushed the tips with our Craft Glue & added Sparkle Cuts for a snow like glittery effect. The flower is stamped twice in clear pigment ink. (Tip: brush your paper with Journey Panpastel Colorless Blender to help prevent stray embossing powder from sticking.) The first one is embossed in regular Rose Gold embossing powder and the 2nd with my custom Rose Gold and Sparkle Dust mix of the embossing powder. Fussy cut the 1st image in full and just the flower itself from the embossed sparkle image. Pop the flower up over the 1st image with Journey Foam Squares. I embossed the sentiment from Sparkle Trim with my custom mix of Rose Gold/Sparkle Dust and fussy cut. I glued the pine boughs flat to the background of the card and popped the flower & sentiment up. Simple elegance.

It may be hot outside but by working on your Christmas projects now, you’ll be ready for the holidays in no time with less stress.

Thanks for stopping by!

Anniversary Creation

Hi Angels!

Welcome back to my blog!

Today I am sharing the Anniversary Card I made for my daughter’s 3rd wedding anniversary.

I used a hand painted paper I made quite a while ago. I often hand paint in large batches & then can pull from my files anytime I want a special background. I believe this one was created with Easter egg dyes. You can buy the kits on clearance after the holiday. I used the tablets, dissolved in warm water & placed in a spray bottle.

The stamp for this card is from an old Unity KOTM April 2014. Sparkle is added with the glitter words & Fun Stampers Journey Sparkle Silk. It looks like it has spots but it’s the sparkle reflecting in the light.

Simply Stunning!

I have officially been posting now for 209 days on my Facebook page. Be sure to check out my other creative endeavors. There are a couple of sneak peeks of the new Bloom This Way catalog premiering Jan. 1st. But there is lots of fun before then. We are having a Black Friday – Cyber Monday special this weekend and in December stay tuned for the 12 Days of Deals. Click my shop now button to go shopping.

I used a few of my Fun Stampers Journey supplies to create this card.

Holidays Blog Hop

Hey Angels!

Welcome back to my blog for another great FSJ hop! We are celebrating the holidays & Bringing Paper to Life! If you arrived here from Debra’s blog then you are right on track. If not, just keep hopping along until you come full circle.

I created 2 cards for you this time. I was playing with a concept & well one led to the other. You don’t always have to have Christmas stamps on hand to create great cards. I used a combo of non-holiday & holiday stamps to create these cards. Here is card #1:

This card was so much fun. I used the new Host Exclusive from the Journey Holidays catalog, Dashing Deer Die as the start of this card. He needed a forest to go with him so he got one with the Fresh Forest stamp set. Card base & sentiment are done in Blue Lagoon. The deer was die cut from Oatmeal Cookie & stamped in Oatmeal Cookie ink with the Coils & Curls stamp set to add interest. The trees were stamped with my custom green Create-a-Palette ink pad. I used my Pool Play Splash Pencil to create my landscape, the wet glue washed out the color a bit when I added in the Sparkle Dust for snow. This quick card made me decide to do a variation on the theme. So here is card #2:

Where card #1 is more elegant, card #2 is just plain cute. This time I added in the Creature Comforts critters to my forest scene. These cards will be featured in my next 10-10-10 Class next Saturday the 26th.

I hope you enjoyed these 2 holiday cards. Be sure to check out the new Journey Holidays catalog. I am sure you will find lots to make your fall & winter holiday creations fabulous!

July Bloom Box Blog Hop – Mermaid Kisses

Hi Angels!

Welcome back for blog hop #2 featuring Mermaid Kisses, the Fun Stampers Journey Bloom Box for July. If you arrived here from Crissy’s blog, then you are right on track, if not just keep hopping until you come full circle.

This blog hop will showcase some additional projects you can make with this month’s Bloom Box.

I had a lot of fun creating today’s card.

Isn’t she fabulous? I built the oval first by layering scallops in Whip Cream, Pool Play & Beach Ball and attaching them to the large Journey Oval die cut, then trimming to shape. I embossed the background layer using the new Layered Scallops embossing folder. I then took some Sparkle Silk, added a bit of Turbo Teal silk for a hint of color & added some splash & sparkle to the embossed layer & oval. My little mermaid is Gold embossed & water colored with the Color Splash pencils. I used the Color Burst pencils on her skin & hair. The sentiment is also Gold embossed. A few sequins & some foam squares to pop up the elements & this beauty is finished & ready to brighten someone’s day.

Starting with the July Bloom Box, FSJ made some changes to how you can purchase the Bloom Box. You can still subscribe for 6 months & receive great projects on your doorstep for just $24.95 per month plus shipping/tax. Or you can now purchase the Bloom Box ala cart for $29.95 per month plus shipping/tax for just the months you wish to purchase. Ala cart purchases are until supplies run out, so if it’s a popular set, you could miss out. Bloom Boxes will no longer be available after the month they are released unless there are still some in stock, once they are gone, they’re gone.

Thank-you visiting my blog. Be sure to hop on over & check out Kristina’s great project.

Bringing Paper to Life Blog Hop

Hi Angels! Welcome back to my blog & the 1st Blog Hop of the new catalog year. This month’s theme is Bringing Paper to Life. If you arrived here from Kim’s blog then you are right on track, if not, no worries, just keep hopping until you come full circle.

I just love the new Mystic Romance collection. Almost all of the stamps in this collection look like they have been stitched or embroidered. I selected the Dreams Follow stamp & die combo to make today’s card.

The card base is Pool Play with a layer of Pretty Amethyst embossed with the Mystic Impressions Embossing Folder. The background & butterfly were splashed with Sparkle Silk. I used Watermelon Fusion, Pool Play & Lavender Fusion inks to ink the butterfly, then die cut & embellished with the new Fashion Silver Metallic Dots. One wing on the butterfly is popped with Journey Foam Squares as well as the sentiment. The sentiment is embossed with Silver Embossing powder.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Hop back by tomorrow for another blog hop featuring the July Bloom Box Mermaid Kisses.

Hop on over to Heather’s Blog to see her great project.
