Cards, Oriental Art

Oriental Art Part 2

My first oriental swap of the year was the Dragon Mingle. Since I had such a fun time being sick in January, my card got created and mailed a day late.

I decided I wanted to create more in one of my favorite color combos this year, green & purple. I stamped the dragon & colored him in with good old Crayola pencils. I dug around in my smaller oriental stamps for a word that I thought might fit. I have decided I really need a couple of stamps that say “fierce” so if you know of any, let me know.  “Fierce” in kanji would be awesome.

Cards, Oriental Art

Oriental Art

I love oriental style art for its beauty & tranquility. While I was hosting Cards for the Troops events, most of my personal art got put on the back burner. Now that the CFT ministry has retired, I can again pursue some of my favorite art styles.

I have been a member of the Oriental Stamp Art Group for probably 14 years now. We moved into our home 15 years ago in 2000 & I believe I found OSA in 2001 or so. The group has had several changes over the years but one thing remains constant, the encouragement, kindness & support no matter where  you are in your art journey, beginner or experienced. OSA is one of the best art groups ever & is a huge part of my art family. You can learn more about OSA at www.orientalstampart.com

I have hosted the Secret Santa Exchange for 8 years. It’s a fun time to exchange surprise packages & we all open them online together on the same day & share our goodies. With the high cost of postage, we modified it in 2014 to include a handmade card, ornament & oriental goodies that will fit in a 6 x 9 envelope.  Here is the card & ornament I created for the 2015 exchange:

I sent a non-oriental holiday card so made a New Year Card in the oriental style. The bird is hand painted with Twinkling H2O’s & is stamped on hand colored background paper.

The ornament was a little rough on the backside but overall came out pretty well. It’s a shaker ornament & was fun to make. I wanted to create an ornament that could be displayed all year if the recipient wanted instead of just at Christmas.

I am looking forward to creating more oriental art this year.  And being on the receiving end in the swaps is always a joy.

Have a Fabulous Sunday!
