2021 Floral Calendar Jan/Feb

Hi Angels!

It’s time to debut the 2021 Calendar. I have been offering this calendar class I think for 7 years now. Could be 8 years but somewhere around that time frame. This year features watercolored florals.

I did every other month alternating silver & gold embossing for a touch of elegance. I brought out my Twinkling H2O’s for shimmer. I used Taylored Expressions Seasonal Sprig for January and an old Fun Stampers Journey set Sweet You.

Like a lot of artists this year, I am planning to use what I have on hand as much as possible. While I am puttering in my studio during my Glorious 60th year, I hope to create with a lot of things that haven’t been used yet as well as revisit some unfinished projects & see about the finishing touches on them. As you can imagine with well over 35+ years of paper art supplies, I have a small treasure trove here. I also plan to purge some more. When I do purchase I am planning to support local & small business shops as much as possible.

I hope your week is full of sunshine & blessings!

Beauty in White

Hi Angels!

I was busy watercoloring and almost forgot to post.

I am going to try & make my posts earlier in the day. In true artist fashion, schedules and me are not friends but I’m working on it.

Tonight’s beauty is my oldest daughter and son-in-law’s anniversary card. I haven’t worked in white on white for awhile so dug into my pearlescent papers to create their card.

I used Penny Black’s Layered Scene dies and Creative-Expressions Happy Anniversary Mini Shadowed Sentiments dies. The different patterns in the pearlescent paper offer interest and contrast which gives the white on white depth and keeps it from looking flat.

If you are creating in white on white different white patterns is the key to a great card. You can use variations between smooth & textured by using patterned papers and embossing folders. Silver can add enough contrast for a sentiment to stand out and still keep the card very monotone. Have fun with it and experiment with different tone on tone colors too.

Feel free to contact me if you have questions about tone on tone or if you try this technique to share your creation. I’d love to see your artwork. You can also add it to the comments on my MeWe or Facebook pages for this card.

Enjoy your weekend!

Peaceful Birthday

Hi Angels!

We had a wee bit of snow for New Year’s day here in Oklahoma. Always love to see the earth blanketed with fresh snow.

With a break from posting most of last month, let’s crank 2021 into high gear with fresh inspiration.

Our Christmas week is very busy with our oldest son’s birthday on the 21st and our oldest daughter’s anniversary on the 22nd, which usually means we get the granddaughters for a sleepover, then it’s straight into Christmas.

I did find some time to create for their special occasions.

First up is Matthew’s birthday card using Whimsy Stamps Canoe set.

Who doesn’t enjoy a peaceful day at the lake? This image is stamped on watercolor paper and I used my Koi watercolors to color it in. Variation & shading are still a struggle but I keep working on these techniques.

When we create we are always our own worst critics. I have 2 tips to share:

1. If you are getting frustrated or feel a lot of uncertainty, walk away from your project for awhile. Then go back and look at it with fresh eyes.

2. If you find yourself trying to “fix” a section over and over again it can be the hardest thing to just stop & let go. Repeat step one and see how it looks later. Chances are it’s just fine.

My favorite saying – “There are no mistakes in creating just creative detours.” And if you really hate it chances are it’s only a few cents worth of paper, ink, paint, etc. Trash it and start fresh.

I am finishing up working some of my set up, goals & project lists for the New Year but they are almost done. It’s nice to have a long holiday weekend to take care of some planning.

I hope you have had a wonderful first day of the New Year!

SASS News

Welcome 2021

Hi Angels!

Happy New Year!

May your year be filled with the wonder of God’s blessings, joy and lots of creative inspiration.

I am going to be switching things up for 2021.

I am celebrating my birthday all year long as I turn Glorious 60!

The SASS Studio has already been reset into more of a personal work space including a lounging area to watch my favorite Hallmark movies or reading a good book.

I am officially on sabbatical from regular teaching and Cards for the Troops. There will still be a class here & there as well as studio play days. The schedule will be entirely on a whim, nothing set in stone. I will still be doing some local charity work at the Salvation Army & Feed His Sheep as well as finding a few more local places that would like cards of encouragement.

We also have some house projects in the works. A little refreshing & remodeling along with more purging & organizing.

Don’t worry there will be plenty of art to inspire and perhaps I’ll be diving back into videos.

Stay tuned.

Happy Snowman

Hi Angels!

I hope you are having a blessed Christmas week!

The final card from our last holiday class of the year features the buffalo plaid snowman I used on my card candy a few weeks ago. The pattern from the plaid just makes him a happy snowman.

Isn’t he a dapper fellow? I used a variety of dies for this card. The snowman is from Spellbinders.

Fill your heart with lots of joy this week!

Hugs!

Blue Flakes

Hi Angels!

I still have a couple of cards to share from my final holiday class.

We have a couple of blue lovers here so designs in blue are always a hit in class.

This card features Catherine Pooler Designs Snowfall Stencil and Cuddle Weather Sentiments stamp set. The stencil is just gorgeous.

I used Nuvo Blue Topaz Glimmer Paste through the stencil for lots of sparkle and glitz and WOW Blue Topaz Embossing Powder for the sentiment. Easy-peasy as long as you are willing to wait a few minutes for the Glimmer Paste to dry and perfect for a last minute card.

I hope you are having a wonderful holiday filled weekend with no stress and lots of joy this final weekend before Christmas.

Hugs!

A Special Angel Project

Hi Angels!

Miss me? I have been working hard to complete all our charity card obligations for Christmas. 160 cards went to Feed His Sheep and another 442 to the Salvation Army. Both included cards for the staff & volunteers of each organization.

I also picked out some Angels for the holidays to make their Christmas a little more special. I had one senior who wanted a Inductive Study Bible & some pens to journal in her Bible. It was also suggested to me that she might like a piece of my Bible art. So I created this piece for her…….

This piece is watercolor on watercolor paper with Micron pen for the lettering and some paint and is sized to tuck into the Bible I picked up for my Angel.

I saw a sample of hearts on Pinterest done in this style that moved through a gradient of the colors used and I came up with this variation on that theme and then added gold dots. Since it was hearts, 1 John 4:19 was the perfect scripture verse to use & is one of my favorites.

I hope this simple gift along with a cozy blanket to snuggle under while studying brings joy to the senior I picked out.

Blessed to be a blessing.

Card Candy

Hi Angels!

I hope you are enjoying preparing for Christmas or other winter holidays you may celebrate.

I recently created some card candy for a small holiday swap with my fellow admins & mods on the Let’s Make Card group. I haven’t made card candy in ages.

If you are wondering what card candy is…… it’s basically premade card elements to make a quick card. Most of the work is done you just pop it onto a card with maybe some background paper & it’s ready to give or send.

We were to make 2 sets, one Christmas themed & one everyday based on a set of questions everyone answered. You will see 2 duplicate pieces here from my recent Winter Sparkle post. I was trying out 2 different blues and decided why not make the 2nd set for my card candy. You will also see in a couple of days that the snowman in buffalo plaid inspired a card for our last card class of the year.

I was going for a country/nature theme for the second set. I actually pulled out the infamous bits & pieces box for ideas. I was thinking that maybe after the first of the year I should spend a week with the bits & pieces box & see how many cards I can make. Might make a good New Year’s challenge.

Try revisiting an old technique or card making style & see what you can create. It helps keep your skills sharp & new materials give things a whole new look.

Thanks for stopping by!

Special Thanks

Hi Angels!

It was nice to take a few days off & just chill. I have been working on our holiday charity cards a bit, planning some new creations & got the house decorated for Christmas but overall just chillin’.

A couple of weeks ago a special postage gift came in for the Troop cards which required a special thank-you. Two in fact. One for the organization and one for the individual who recommended our Troop work. That gift made a big difference in the 9 boxes we shipped for the holidays.

This slimline was the thank-you for the organization.

I used Picket Fence Studios Slimline Floral stencil, My Favorite Things Thank-you die and Taylored Expressions Big Thanks stamp set.

This was the thank-you for the individual who recommended the gift for the Troop cards.

For this card I used Elizabeth Craft’s Leaf Pattern Background cover plate die with the Thanks from Taylored Expressions and Taylored’s Big Thanks stamp set.

It has been such a blessing this year working with the many individuals supporting Cards for the Troops. I cannot say thank-you enough for all the cards and supplies that have come in. For now we are on a temporary hold until we find out if the Troop draw down will affect the unit we send too.

Have a really fabulous first week of December!

The joy of the Christmas season is here.

Love & Joy

Hi Angels!

We have our last holiday card class tomorrow just before the full holiday season kicks off with Thanksgiving on Thursday.

Late at night I’ve been watching some of Kristina Werner’s 2020 Holiday Card series videos on Youtube and just loved the trifold card she made for day 2 and decided it was perfect for class.

Here is my version….

I just love the blue poinsettia paper for the background. I used Concord & 9th’s Full of Joy die & stamp set and Memory Box Poinsettia Circle Frame & Pine Needle Twigs dies. I’m thinking this Joy die will find it’s way into my Bible journaling too.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving week!

Thanks for popping by.
