It’s Crafty Staycation Weekend!

Hi Angels!

I signed up for 2 virtual retreats this year as part of my 60th birthday celebration. This weekend is Brutus Monroe’s Crafty Staycation featuring 7 classes over 3 days.

Tonight’s first class featured the yet to be released Birdhouse Scene Builder die set from Brutus Monroe. It has 39 different dies that cut out 82 different pieces.

While setting up for class in the studio I came across a small zip bag full of small scraps from some of my handmade & stamped backgrounds so I decided to place them on the table in a small bin to dig through. I used several on my birdhouse card along with some of the papers supplied in the kit.

The 2nd class of the night was with Therm-o-web and no heat foiling. For this class I created 2 cards. If you know me well enough you know I rarely make identical to the sample cards. So I have switched up a few things in all my classes.

This card features the Pinkfresh Hanging Garden layering stencil that we will have an additional class with tomorrow. The original card had diagonal foil stripes but Julia from Therm-o-web showed a criss cross version that I decided to try in foiling. The center of the flowers are foiled too. I used Pinkfresh Classic Word dies for the sentiment.

The final card from tonight is a beautiful rainbow featuring the Brutus Monroe Rainglow foil. I also added foil dots to the clouds. The sun is a Therm-o-web flocked paper.

Tomorrow and Sunday I have 3 classes each day. The mini-album is split into 2 sessions.

Hope your weekend is fabulous & includes some creating too.

Beautiful Heart

Hi Angels!

It’s been a long day so I cased a card from this month’s Catherine Pooler Designs Club Sursee that arrived in my mail this afternoon.

It helps that I watched a foiling video too since this card had foiling on it. I think I need to play more with foils.

The Shattered Rainbow foil from Deco Foil is fabulous! I stamped the heart from the In My Heart set in embossing ink, used WOW! Bonding Powder embossing powder then added the foil and ran it through the laminator. The sentiment is from the same set.

Fortunately I’ll get to play with some more foil this weekend in class. I signed up for Brutus Monroe’s Crafty Staycation event and one of the 7 classes includes foiling. I think I’ll also be stalking Youtube for more ideas.

Thanks for popping by!

Life Blessings

Hi Angels!

I was busy reorganizing my paint rack today and working on some Happy Mail to send out tomorrow while I am out & about. So it was dive into the infamous Bits & Pieces box for a quick 10 minute card.

I did create one of the Happy Mail cards today which I will post in about a week after it has time to arrive. The oval mat on this card was leftover after die cutting out the image for the first card. The hand dyed scrap was just barely big enough to fit behind the opening and the butterfly was from a long ago project. All it needed was the sentiment. I probably could have spruced it up a bit more but I have an early day tomorrow so it’s time to wrap up the night. So super clean & simple it is.

I hope your week is going well.

Elegant Abstract

Hi Angels!

I was going to create this card yesterday but I got some much needed tidying & organizing done and decided to call the day good.

You guessed it, it’s the Abstract Flower Stencil from Brutus Monroe’s February stencil of the month. I think for now I’m done designing with it, we’ll see.

This came out fabulously elegant! I embossed the stencil in white. I actually just got in some Brutus Monroe Alabaster (white) embossing powder. I decided it needed a border so I found the thinnest washi I had that would work with the black & white design.

The sentiment is Quietfire Design by Suzanne Cannon through Elizabeth Craft Design. If you are not familiar with Suzanne’s work, she is a master calligrapher, who many years ago started turning her calligraphy into stamps. Her designs are now available through Elizabeth Craft Designs & the Silhouette Store. I have many of her original red rubber unmounted stamps in the studio. I need to gather them together while I am organizing & put them to use again. Her calligraphy is just lovely.

I hope you are recovering well from last week’s frigid blast.

Have a Great Week!

Birthday Abstract

Hi Angels!

I’ve been playing with the Brutus Monroe Abstract Flower Stencil of the Month again.

I wanted to try a couple of black & white cards with this stencil so this is my first design. Fairly easy even with embossing. The sentiments are from Taylored Expressions Simple Strips Birthday.

Thanks for stopping by.

Blessings Found

Hi Angels!

Some simple coloring for tonight’s card.

I headed outside this afternoon with our youngest son to shovel the driveway, no mean feat when you live on 2 acres in the country. We do not have a short driveway. We also were not going to be able to get any of the cars out until the 8+ inches were removed. I’m sure I will be sore tomorrow.

I did work on my bigger project a bit then thought I’d make a card. I used Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps Blessings in Disguise.

I finished coloring and didn’t quite like it, the stark white background wasn’t working. I grabbed a watercolor pencil & a waterbrush & made a quick background & it made all the difference.

I hope your weekend is wonderful.

Sending Smiles

Hi Angels!

I spent a good part of the day working on another project however since I made a few backgrounds Monday, I took a break to make this colorful card.

Isn’t this background fabulous! It’s the new Stencil of the Month from Brutus Monroe Abstract Flower. I paired it with Simon Says Stamp Sending Smiles Words die for a fast card.

Here is the background before I turned it into a card. I just love the swirls in this stencil. I’m going to have to see what else I can design with it soon.

I’m going to see if I can get some shoveling done in the morning. It got a bit warmer today but we still can’t get out of our driveway.

Hope you have a good weekend and are warm & safe.

Owl Delight

Hi Angels!

We got several more inches of snow over night to add to our current winter wonderland. I missed creating last night but the weather does sometimes bring on migraines unfortunately.

Tonight’s card features the negative background from Monday’s Light of Faith card. If I think there is enough ink on the stencil when I am done blending, I will spritz with water & print on another piece of cardstock. This one came out like a soft watercolor.

The owl from Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps Owl Be There is stamped on a brayered gel print background from my stash and lends himself well to the slightly grungy details the Grunge Dots stencil left on the background. I added more dots with SNSS Texture Tiles 8 and the sentiment is from Faith Phrases.

Fun, colorful and a great reminder of where our focus should always be.

If I don’t post much for a few days, not to worry, we may have to shut down part of our house as we have reached the red line 20% level on our propane tank. If the truck doesn’t get here in the next couple of days with the propane shortage, we may be relying on space heaters & the fireplace for warmth providing we have electricity still too.

20 years ago we did 3 days no power in an ice storm with just a gas fireplace, wasn’t easy but we made it through. We will again.

Hopefully you are starting to unthaw from this week’s intense cold or will in the next couple of days. Many prayers if it’s still heading your way or you are without power. Try your best to stay safe & warm.

Light of Faith

Hi Angels!

Our temperatures are still really cold but there was some beautiful sunshine today before snowmageddon round 2 arrives. I know many are already struggling to get through these storms especially with the power & water outages.

We have zoned heating & hubby perfected the balance enough today that I could spend a wee bit of time in the studio. We are mostly keeping it shut off to conserve but with the sunshine helping to warm I could work a bit. I did a couple of different backgrounds but this one was my main focus for creating today.

My new Sweet ‘n Sassy order arrived Saturday so I wanted to create something with the new stencils. This card features the Grunge Dots stencil with the new Faith & Hope word dies and the Faith stamp set that has been available for awhile. I just love how it came out.

This winter storm may be a trial but keep your eyes focused on God, especially in the dark & He will bring you through to the light.

Sending warm hugs & prayers.

Serenity Relax

Hi Angels!

With the intense cold even with central heat & air plus an extra infrared heater, I could only be in the studio a short time today. It is after all still a garage with some extra insulation added to it.

I did complete my mini series and worked on getting some happy mail prepped in my study.

Nature is one of the most perfect ways to relax and we are blessed to live on 2 acres that are like a mini nature sanctuary. So this leafy border was a perfect way to convey serenity.

The same Catherine Pooler Designs sets from the past couple of days. Classy Trims & Re Sentiments. I also added Crater Lake sequins to all three cards. On today’s card I grouped tiny sequins in groups of three to mimic berries in the foliage.

Please stay warm and safe during this artic blast.
