It’s definitely been an emotional week all the way around.
When I heard Matthew West’s new release The Hope of Christmas, it was an absolutely perfect reminder of where my hope lies.
I created this Bible journaling page as the official first entry in my new Interleaved Bible.
I used Unity Stamp Company’s Lying in a Manger stamp set, Distress Inks, colored pencil & Stickles to complete this page. I hand lettered the chorus of the song. I place the layout opposite of Luke 2, the birth of Jesus.
Take some time to rest & reflect on where your hope lies. Then reach out & bring hope & love to those around you.
I hope your Monday has been a great start to the week.
We were busy with car repairs. Apparently it wasn’t just my battery, it was the starter too. Then hubby went out to go to work & his battery was dead. So he took the day off to repair both cars.
I finished up my Bible Journaling page that I started a week ago. I remembered to do a before shot right after I stamped the first flower here.
The coloring on this page is the bleed through of the distress inks I used on the other side & it is so pretty. It features Psalm 135 which has a lot of wonderful praise verses about God’s greatness and the many things He had done for Israel & for us.
The watercolor effect called for some flowers so I just played with several different sets from Sweet n’ Sassy Stamps. I used Marker Alpha, Whimsy Bouquet, Fall in Love with Jesus, Happy Day, The Lord’s Battle, Words of Life: Actions, Amazing Grace and Consider the Wildflowers. Sometimes you just need to play & have fun. Is it a perfect page, nope but it is a heartfelt page.
Mondays are my heavy home cleaning day but I did manage to pop out the door quick enough to tell one of my package delivery people “thank-you” before they made it back to their truck. I imagine a lot don’t receive many thanks during the day. It’s just a small kindness & I hope it made the drivers day.
I have been working on my next Bible Journaling project off & on for over a week. I think as we go through the remainder of the year, kindness is going to become more & more important as we navigate the changes we are adapting to.
I just love the song “Revolutionary“ by Josh Wilson. (click the title & check it out on Youtube.) It’s very true to today. Hate has become ordinary & kindness is revolutionary. We definitely need to flip the script & show lots of love & kindness to those around us.
“Think of the kindness you wish others would show you; do the same for them.” Luke 6:31 The Voice Bible
I worked on this spread in my Bible Art Journal over 4 days. It features acrylic paint and stencils for a graffiti type look, lots of hand lettering & a Love Your Neighbor printable from Keys to the Kingdom.
Stand on truth, love & justice. Do what is right, not what the “crowd” is pushing. Make a difference in your neighborhood & communities. One act of kindness can change a person’s life, it might even save a life.
Start your own kindness project. Call family & friends & check on them. Send a card to someone to brighten their day. Drop a donation off at your local food pantry. Share hope, encouragement & love. I’ll be you will find that sharing kindness & being a blessing brings you more joy & blessings too.
I didn’t get any art done yesterday so was going to post some organization & troop progress & then my phone decided to freeze up for about an hour. So I figured I’d head to bed & see what today brought.
We had a mini Bible study and some journaling over on the Creative Worship Bible Journaling group this afternoon. Our study was on peace. Goodness knows there’s been a lot of unrest in the world lately. Thankfully as believers in the Way, our peace comes from our relationship with God.
We had 8 verses we went over and our instructor chose Philippians 4:4-8 to journal. Since I had previously journaled that page, I hopped over to John 14:27 to create my page on peace. Jesus is speaking to the disciples, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” NIV
This page also would have been perfect for Isaiah 26:3 You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. ESV
Life may be a challenge right now, but if I keep my eyes fixed on God and trust in His plan, then I will have peace, hope & confidence that no matter what happens God is in control and with me. Some days it’s harder than others but thankfully God doesn’t give up on us easily.
I used Simon Says Stamp Tumbling Leaves stencil, Sweet n’ Sassy True Beauty and Way Maker stamps with Distress Oxides and Micron pen for the hand lettering.
It was PJ Party night over on the Creative Worship Bible Journaling group. The theme this month is Unity and our focus tonight was Psalm 133:1. “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”
This verse goes hand in hand with the lesson from the prayer group today. 1 Peter 3:8 says “Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate & humble.”
Be like-minded, unified, in God’s Word & truth.
Be sympathetic to what others are going through or experiencing.
Love one another, both your brothers & sisters in Christ & your neighbors.
Be compassionate to others, good, kind-hearted & generous.
Be humble, concerned, caring.
What a simple list to work towards unity and sharing God’s love with each other & the world.
I did a simple background with Distress Oxides, the hands are from the Unity Printable provided to the group by Creative Faith & Co. The flower was a freebie from an order I placed. Unity is stamped with my old school alphas from my early art journaling days. Anyone remember the little alphabet sets on wood blocks? I have some teeny tiny ones here.
My goal remains to share kindness & encouragement.
Stand in unity, pray for each other & share lots & lots of love in our communities. That smile or kindness goes a long way towards living in harmony.
It has certainly been a strange 2020 so far. All my plans to keep up with my blog kind of went right out the window. So I am looking at a new approach for the rest of 2020. A blog of encouragement, maybe some advice to new cardmakers, Cards for Troops updates, Bible Journaling, just a big mix with an over laying theme of kindness & encouragement.
One of the biggest things the virus quarantine brought to attention was how much people have been loving getting cards in the mail. Snail mail is not gone my friends & I think we have the perfect opportunity to bring smiles to those in our circles of influence by sending out lots of cards. Especially if you can find a care or nursing facility where the residents still have to be very careful.
I am one of the moderators over on the Let’s Make Card group on Facebook. Not only are they huge supporters of getting cards to the Troop unit we mail to, there are a lot of brand new stampers and cardmakers discovering the joy of creating cards & bringing smiles. I have learned a lot over the years & I think some tips for new cardmakers might just be a good thing to revisit.
One of the key components of my life is my faith journey. I have spent a lot more time the past couple of months Bible Journaling and I love it. I also have had the opportunity to provide some encouragement cards to the Salvation Army & send out some happy mail. I think right now in our current climate, focusing on kindness & encouragement is a critical key to helping our neighbors. Together we are stronger and we are especially stronger when we are united in God’s love to reach out to a hurting world.
I really enjoy my time over on the Creative Worship Bible Journaling group on Facebook. A couple of times a month, they have a PJ Party. This week we had a mixed media lesson. I have been wanting to add an art journal to my Bible Journaling and this week’s PJ party was perfect. My lettering is a bit rough but overall I really like how this piece came out. God is good, loves us so much & is always faithful. It is a joy to praise Him & give thanks.
This page has a gesso base with Distress Oxides layered over. The cathedral window is a stencil as well as the texture paste corners at the top. There are some stamps added in for some more texture. Verse is handlettered in Micron pens & paint marker.
