Journal Cover – Just Journal January

Hi Angels!

I have spent a lot of the past 15+ years almost exclusively making cards with an album & mixed media piece here and there. Part of my early art training was in handmade books, collage, junk type journals, mixed media, altered books, ATC’s and more. So I’ll be returning to some of my art roots this year. My goal is an album, journal or handmade book per month minimum and hopefully a few more.

This month on the Scrapbooking With Me group they have a Just Journal January challenge going on. Aimed at beginners but for all levels, Miss E & Melina have been presenting start to finish videos all month. If you click on their names it will go to their Youtube channels.

I finally got started on the challenge this week. Here is my cover before signatures are added:

So what is interesting about this cover is it’s made with a recycled bubble envelope as the middle. It makes the cover crinkly. Still undecided on the fabric I wanted to use, I found the “home” & “bicycle” fabric at the Dollar Tree and knew it was perfect. The vintage collage style fabric is a new item at Hobby Lobby.

As you can imagine after almost 40 years of art, I have quite the variety in my stash from all my different styles of creating. The lace butterfly is from a vintage curtain valance someone gave me a piece of a long time ago. The “scrabble” tiles are ephemera pieces from more than 10 years ago, the art journal printed tape is easily as old, the lace with sequins & beads was in my ribbons. As I have dug around I have set more items aside for collaging & junk journaling.

Since I’m more a “clean & simple” design artist, my journal won’t be too vintage or grungy looking.

I hope to finish up the whole journal by the end of the weekend. Stay tuned for a video walk-thru.

Thanks for stoppng by!

Blessings!

Dance Album

Hi Angels!

I hope your first week of the year is going well.

I had a lot of fun creating this album for Nora’s birthday. She has been in dance a couple of years now trying different styles so I thought it would make a great gift.

I managed to squeeze in a quick video before it had to be wrapped.

I used the Slim Folio tutorial by Scrap & Coffee. I added in a variety of paper & elements, some several years old from my stash and some newer items like the Lemoncraft Elegance Collection and Paper Rose Beautiful Dancer Collection. I picked up Visible Images Hip Hop Girls stamp set to add a couple of images since this year Nora is taking Hip Hop class.

This is a nice small album and it will hold about (20) 4 x 6 photos.

Thanks for stopping by.

Blessings!

Tag Journal Tag 1 Scrap Attack

Hi Friends!

I have been busy, busy reorganizing in the studio. Over 37 years of stamping, I have a lot of stamps, I stopped counting when I knew I had several thousand. Well 10 boxes, mostly wood mounted, are walking out the door soon. I reduced from 28 drawers full to 19. I kept only what I really love using or for the type of art I am planning to do. The remaining 19 drawers are organized by type & labeled. It’s wonderful!

I started following the Scrapbooking with ME YouTube channel a few months ago and decided to work on her newest project to create a Tag Journal. Of course I watched the first video then promptly went rogue. I plan to make 2 one using my huge pile of scraps from the Bo Bunny Believe & Faith Collections and a Christmas one from a paper pad I received as a gift a couple years ago.

Miss E created a swing tag for the first tag but I created a booklet tag more less following her design.

Cover with 2 pockets
Cover Tags
Inside of Booklet with lots of journaling space
Back Cover
Back Tag flips up for more journaling space.

It was lots of fun to pick through the scraps, design the booklet and add some tags. I will add some more embellishments as time allows. I loved switching to the inverted corner punch or ticket style punch for my corners to change it up a bit.

I hope you are having a fabulous Labor Day Weekend.

Blessings!
