I decided since I already had the Catherine Pooler Designs Classy Trims & Re Sentiments out that I would do a mini series. 3 border trims = 3 cards. When I am designing this is a great way to create a class.
This fun rainbow/scallop border is so fun. Rainbows are a great reason to rejoice. The promise from God to never flood the earth again like He did when He had Noah create the ark. This card is sure to bring a smile and can be used for multiple occasions.
I colored my rainbows with my CPD inks and a Tombow blender marker.
The first part of snowmageddon is due to arrive in just a couple of hours. Wherever you are in this cold blast, I pray you are safe & warm.
After gathering a few more supplies for snowmageddon, I popped into the studio for a quick card tonight.
I didn’t have time to play with what I was planning to, so after a quick scan through some stamps I opted to do another geometric card.
Black & white with a pop of color is always fun. I used Catherine Pooler Designs Classy Trims, Re Sentiments & Best in the Patch stamps sets with the new Pucker Up and Catching Rays ink colors.
Several people seemed to be a bit stressed lately and it’s always good to take a little time to refresh & regroup. It can be as easy as a bubble bath, reading a favorite book or even if you’re able a weekend getaway. It’s okay to give yourself some breathing space.
I hope everyone stays safe & warm during this super freeze event. It could be a blessing to stay in & have some down time.
This week in February has all the birthdays I need to make cards for in the same week.
Our youngest son’s birthday was Tuesday and since my guys don’t like any fuss made for their birthdays I opted for a simple geometric design. Of course he probably would have been happier if I’d skip the card but hey, it’s what I do. BTW – my “baby” is now 27 years old. I don’t feel like the 60 I will turn soon so the age of my kids seems a bit unreal.
I don’t play with geometrics nearly enough. When My Favorite Things re-released their Trendy Triangles set, I knew I wanted it for my collection. The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Birthday Sweets set. True to my favorite clean & simple designs, I opted for red & black on a light gray base.
Masculine cards can be difficult and geometrics can be one solution when you are creating. I don’t have sports, fishing or hunting guys in the family. My guys tend towards the technical side of things. That limits what I create in the masculine style. So geometrics, nature & vehicles are usually what I am working with.
Sometimes limited supplies can be an issue too if you are just starting out or are on a budget. Always be looking for ideas when you check out other card designs and see what you can adapt to what you already have. It’s always a good idea to start with a few stamp sets that can give you some versatility. Many suggest before purchasing, you think about the set & if you will be able to make 3 – 5 different designs with that set. And of course a good basic all around sentiment set is a must when getting started. You can always work within your budget with a little planning & thought.
I wasn’t entirely sorting/organizing last week. I had to make a birthday card for Miss Margaret’s 81st birthday Sunday.
I wanted to do something with red, one of her favorite colors, so decided a retro style cake would be perfect.
This wonky cake is so much fun! It’s the new Birthday Cake Remix stamp & die set from Catherine Pooler Designs paired with the Dotted Bursts Background Stamp. I also own the original CPD wonky cake stamp set from one of my very first Stamp of Approval kits. I am going to have to design some more wonky cake cards soon.
I am starting to get into the habit of using my CPD inks more & used Rockin Red, Cranberry Fizz, All That Jazz & Aquatini for this card.
I know, I’ve been missing in action. There hasn’t been a whole lot of creating going on here but there has been a lot of sorting & organizing. I worked on nineteen 12 x 12 cases last week and I cleaned off my 3 main worktops so I actually can create a little easier while in the midst of some major sorting.
I unearthed a bunch of bits & pieces while sorting including a few I received in Happy Mail cards. So I grabbed my background box tonight & in about 40 minutes created 6 cards that I can send for Happy Mail.
Some pretty backgrounds and a handful of diecuts is certainly an easy way to create some fun. These are sure to brighten up someone’s day.
With the artic blast coming in this week be sure to stay safe & warm.
Well I certainly didn’t plan on taking 3 days off from posting but my back had an agenda of it’s own this past weekend. I was able to sit for a short period of time & do some sorting in the studio but that was about it. Thankfully it’s much better today.
When you are busy catching up after a small setback you head to the infamous Bits & Pieces box for a quick card.
Classic pink & black for the win everytime. I love being able to grab a marbled background from my background box & use it for a quick card. The heart filmstrip die is an old Fun Stampers Journey die, the love die is My Favorite Things Lots of Love and is current. The little foam pink heart was on my desk and it completed a trio for my card.
I have several projects I will be working on this week that can’t be posted until they are received by the recipient but I’ll do my best to post something everyday.
I have slowly been curbing my spending however I am still celebrating my birthday all year so I splurged a little and got this fabulous die from the Crafty Meraki. Plus I do enjoy supporting small businesses and American made.
If you know me well, butterflies have been my symbol all my life so naturally I like the more unique things and this die is definitely unique. The background is hand dyed paper I made quite awhile back. I am thinking a hand dyed paper session is in order again this year. The sentiments are from Sweet ‘n Sassy God is Bigger stamp set.
This is another great encouragement card for someone who needs a little light and encouragement. Keep seeking those who could use a little joy and hope in their lives and do a little something special for them.
Wednesday may become my new favorite day of the week around here. I scheduled it for working on classes but I think it’s been a good day just to chill & puddle around the house doing whatever.
After doing some prep work for another project, I decided to try out my shimmering watercolors on black cardstock.
Not bad for a first try, the shimmer is really pretty against the black. I may switch shimmering colors next time to a different brand. I used Sweet ‘n Sassy Encouraging Peonies with My Favorite Things Words of Inspiration (retired).
I know on my friends list & art groups there are quite a few people asking for prayers for various life events. Don’t forget to make yourself a note to pray for those you know & perhaps you can make a card of encouragement to send to them too. It may just bring the smile they need during a difficult time.
