I hope you’ve had a wonderful Saturday. I got some organizing done, always a good thing & I handed off a couple of new home baskets to Feed His Sheep. One of the sheep got their new apartment yesterday & are no longer on the streets.
I have been playing with the Taylored Expressions Field Note kit. I’m glad I decided to get one because the exclusive kit is sold out.
I’ve been eyeing distress ink blends on Pinterest again and a sunset one caught my eye so I used it to create this card using the Frayed Edge masking stencils. It came out beautifully.
I chose the Indian Paintbrush flower from the Sketchbook Florals set, at least I think that’s what it is. I love flowers but am far from an expert. No green thumb here. I colored it in rich colors so it would stand out against the background. The sentiment if from the Field Notes stamp set.
I’m off to get some rest. Heading off to church in the morning & then visiting with our granddaughters in the afternoon.
It has been a very long day. The Angels & I worked many hours processing almost 1150 troop cards. I put in 9.5 hours myself. Whew!
Here is a look at both sides of the table after all our hard work. This is only part of what we got done. I got this packed into boxes ready for the holiday shipment coming up.
Despite the many hours of work, I decided to create a quick 10 minute card. I pulled a couple of die cuts off my work top. The “Hugs” is from My Favorite Things and the flower from happy mail. I picked out a background I had embossed awhile ago, added a card base & fast card.
All the Angels deserve a huge hug for all their help today! Many thanks! This is our favorite kindness project, providing cards for the troops to send home.
Can you believe it’s September already? I’m not ready for fall & usually in Oklahoma it won’t start to show up for about another month. However given as strange a year as it’s been well……
I got my September calendar page colored & displayed. I used Unity Stamp Company’s Go Get It Girl set for this month. As a redhead in long sleeves she looks like she’s ready for fall.
Speaking of calendars, I’d better get prepped to design the 2021 calendar class. The Angels have been making them for I think 6 years now.
Looking forward to a little fun this month. Our spring retreat got cancelled so we are set for our fall retreat in just 2 weeks and will be gone for about 6 days. Yay! But first some troop card processing tomorrow & a class I’d better get designed for next Monday.
I hope your Monday has been a great start to the week.
We were busy with car repairs. Apparently it wasn’t just my battery, it was the starter too. Then hubby went out to go to work & his battery was dead. So he took the day off to repair both cars.
I finished up my Bible Journaling page that I started a week ago. I remembered to do a before shot right after I stamped the first flower here.
The coloring on this page is the bleed through of the distress inks I used on the other side & it is so pretty. It features Psalm 135 which has a lot of wonderful praise verses about God’s greatness and the many things He had done for Israel & for us.
The watercolor effect called for some flowers so I just played with several different sets from Sweet n’ Sassy Stamps. I used Marker Alpha, Whimsy Bouquet, Fall in Love with Jesus, Happy Day, The Lord’s Battle, Words of Life: Actions, Amazing Grace and Consider the Wildflowers. Sometimes you just need to play & have fun. Is it a perfect page, nope but it is a heartfelt page.
Mondays are my heavy home cleaning day but I did manage to pop out the door quick enough to tell one of my package delivery people “thank-you” before they made it back to their truck. I imagine a lot don’t receive many thanks during the day. It’s just a small kindness & I hope it made the drivers day.
Tonight’s card uses the negative print of last night’s Brutus Monroe Victorian Swirl stencil. If I think I have enough ink on a stencil after coloring through it, I will often spritz it with water & try to take a negative print with the color on the stencil. I have found it’s actually quite effective if I spritz the paper with water first & then only lightly mist the stencil before trying to take an impression.
This gave such a beautiful soft watercolor look to the print that I knew I just had to create something. I’ve been wanting to play with silhouette images so I pulled out My Favorite Things Flower Silhouettes and opted to do them in the card base color. The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Look for the Miracles set. The butterfly is one of my oldest stamps when All Night Media used to make them on foam blocks.
Kindness today came when our oldest son & his wife came to assist us when our van wouldn’t start. Seems like it was just a bit of corrosion on the battery & the cable was a bit loose. The battery tested great for a charge thankfully.
Personally it’s a little early for fall for me, however, I kept seeing such cute designs with Catherine Pooler Designs Hey Pumpkin stamp set that I ordered one & it arrived today.
After a long day of errands, chores, teaching & troop work, I decided to pop back into the studio this evening & create a card inspired by one of the brand ambassadors designs.
These pumpkins just make me smile in their variety of color. I used the new CP Mini Inks from the Spa Collection Paradise Found. I had decided that I didn’t want another full size set of ink pads so opted for the CP Mini’s & I love them. They are really a nice size for a variety of projects. Easy to use & handle.
I have been working on a couple of the behind the scenes kindness projects that will remain behind the scenes. I have a lot of fun planning surprises & things that are meant to bring joy in a quieter way. No matter how you share kindness, keep sharing it, we need a whole lot of it flooding the world right now.
Boy is this Grammy tired. Little Miss Nora came to visit & spend the night & even she was so tuckered out, she fell asleep on the way home this afternoon. We had lots of fun & did a wee bit of artwork together of course.
I did start a Bible Journaling page yesterday but it’s not quite finished so I opted for a quick card tonight. I had done a trial cut of the A Jillian Vance Design Slimline Signature Polka Dot Cover Plate die on red but hadn’t designed anything yet. I enjoyed playing with the daisies so much a couple of days ago that I created a cute summer hello.
I also used the Essentials Backdrop die that has coordinating stitching and dug up my big hello & daisy set from FSJ. This will make a great kindness card to
I have a couple of busy days the next couple of days so this Grammy better get some rest.
I had so much fun making tonight’s card! I just started playing & it came together. Stunning!
I started with the Brutus Monroe Chapel Art Stencil to create the stain glass window effect with Distress Inks. Loved it, but it didn’t stand out against the background. So I placed the stencil back in place, covered it up & decided the outside of the window needed to look like a wall & I didn’t want brick. Did you know you can use your dies for stencils? Yep. I pulled out my new Gemini Dry Stone Wall Create a Card die & shaded right through the openings. I rinsed it off & dried it very thoroughly. The dove is from the Bo Bunny Believe die set and the sentiment is Taylored Expressions Simple Strips Background.
Today’s kindness was helping a couple of animal rescues out with medical & food needs. All God’s creatures great & small need love & care too.
Sometimes the best kindness is to yourself, especially after dealing with a migraine on Tuesday. Yesterday I ran a couple of errands, did a little troop work and then just chilled. Today I did something I haven’t done in awhile and that was just poke around a couple of stores with no real agenda, then treated myself to lunch. Of course in addition to being kind to me, I also left a nice tip for my waitress. Most restaurants are still not at full capacity so there’s just not the tips for the waitstaff like usual.
Tonight I got my main worktop cleaned off & tidied, then created a quick card using the heart cutouts from the faith, hope & love card I posted last week.
The hearts are from A Jillian Vance Design Slimeline Heart Window & Words Cover Plate die set. I always love projects that I can create a 2 for one and this cover plate set offers just that.
Since there are obviously no slimline embossing folders as far as I know, I experimented with the Ornate Floral folder from Stampin’ Up! to see if I could get an even emboss flipping the cardstock piece. If you look close there is a thin meeting line but overall I had good success on my 2nd attempt. The smile is from a Sizzix set & the daisies are an old retired FSJ set.
