Yesterday was hubby’s birthday, so we actually went to town Friday all day for some shopping & dinner. So yesterday we moved my desk into the studio & I now some more re-organizing to do. Thus no art posts for 2 days.
Today I finished the 2 cards I started for our granddaughters for Easter. They have foiled backgrounds which were hard to capture but came out cute.
I used Therm-o-web’s egg toner card fronts in purple & rainbow and added My Favorite Things Wish You Were Here and the sentiment is from Sweet ‘n Sassy Hoppy Spring.
We enjoyed the day with our daughter, son-in-law & granddaughters including an egg hunt in the front yard, some legos from grammy & papa & dinner.
They were really happy to find chocolate in their eggs.
Today we booked our anniversary trip for May. So excited.
It’s also our oldest son’s & his bride’s 1st anniversary. I delivered their card a couple of days ago.
As I may have mentioned, I am in a couple of virtual retreats this coming weekend. The Crop & Create Weekend sent a sponsors goody bag along with our class kits. Therm-O-Web included a fun heart toner card front that I used to create Matthew & April’s card.
The foiling came out fabulous! I used Brutus Monroe’s Purple Sketch foil created by Therm-O-Web. The Love is an older Die-namic from My Favorite Things and is cut from purple metallic paper and the vellum background is Grafix Platinum which also has a shimmer to it. The sentiment is from Sweet ‘n Sassy’s Anniversary Blessings stamp set and is embossed in WOW Sugared Almond which has glitter in it. Overall it is a very sparkly card.
When I get the chance, I need to spend some more time foiling, it is so fun.
This week in February has all the birthdays I need to make cards for in the same week.
Our youngest son’s birthday was Tuesday and since my guys don’t like any fuss made for their birthdays I opted for a simple geometric design. Of course he probably would have been happier if I’d skip the card but hey, it’s what I do. BTW – my “baby” is now 27 years old. I don’t feel like the 60 I will turn soon so the age of my kids seems a bit unreal.
I don’t play with geometrics nearly enough. When My Favorite Things re-released their Trendy Triangles set, I knew I wanted it for my collection. The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Birthday Sweets set. True to my favorite clean & simple designs, I opted for red & black on a light gray base.
Masculine cards can be difficult and geometrics can be one solution when you are creating. I don’t have sports, fishing or hunting guys in the family. My guys tend towards the technical side of things. That limits what I create in the masculine style. So geometrics, nature & vehicles are usually what I am working with.
Sometimes limited supplies can be an issue too if you are just starting out or are on a budget. Always be looking for ideas when you check out other card designs and see what you can adapt to what you already have. It’s always a good idea to start with a few stamp sets that can give you some versatility. Many suggest before purchasing, you think about the set & if you will be able to make 3 – 5 different designs with that set. And of course a good basic all around sentiment set is a must when getting started. You can always work within your budget with a little planning & thought.
Well I certainly didn’t plan on taking 3 days off from posting but my back had an agenda of it’s own this past weekend. I was able to sit for a short period of time & do some sorting in the studio but that was about it. Thankfully it’s much better today.
When you are busy catching up after a small setback you head to the infamous Bits & Pieces box for a quick card.
Classic pink & black for the win everytime. I love being able to grab a marbled background from my background box & use it for a quick card. The heart filmstrip die is an old Fun Stampers Journey die, the love die is My Favorite Things Lots of Love and is current. The little foam pink heart was on my desk and it completed a trio for my card.
I have several projects I will be working on this week that can’t be posted until they are received by the recipient but I’ll do my best to post something everyday.
Wednesday may become my new favorite day of the week around here. I scheduled it for working on classes but I think it’s been a good day just to chill & puddle around the house doing whatever.
After doing some prep work for another project, I decided to try out my shimmering watercolors on black cardstock.
Not bad for a first try, the shimmer is really pretty against the black. I may switch shimmering colors next time to a different brand. I used Sweet ‘n Sassy Encouraging Peonies with My Favorite Things Words of Inspiration (retired).
I know on my friends list & art groups there are quite a few people asking for prayers for various life events. Don’t forget to make yourself a note to pray for those you know & perhaps you can make a card of encouragement to send to them too. It may just bring the smile they need during a difficult time.
Yesterday I was busy organizing my dies so I started this card but didn’t finish it. I couldn’t post it until today anyway as it’s the 2nd birthday card for my granddaughter’s birthday.
We had a private nail salon visit for nails on her birthday Thursday & today we had presents & cupcakes.
The Ice Princess & Friends set from My Favorite Things is so fun to create with. Who wouldn’t want to play with an ice skating polar bear?
The mountains gave me a bit of trouble since it’s the first time I used the Impression Obsession Mountain Layers slimline set. Sometimes solid image stamps just take a bit to get broke in and don’t stamp well. Figuring out their placement took a bit too. Where I ended up with a gap, I colored it blue to look like a lake in the distance between hills. Remember they are not mistakes, just creative detours. Of course if it’s truly awful, it just a few cents in paper and you can start again.
Hope your weekend is filled with creating & relaxing.
Tonight’s card is for my oldest granddaughter’s 6th birthday. She declared this a “Purple Girl” birthday so I made a purple card.
The Heart Rays and Happy Birthday are My Favorite Things Die-namics. I dug into my scrap bin for the purple glitter paper. Fast & easy.
What a wonder that her birthday is on the 21st day of the 21st year in the 21st century.
Since her “party” (just family) is Saturday, you will probably see a 2nd card. We met today at the nail salon for a nail party, just Nora, mom & grammy. It’s a blessing to have a small salon to visit that we can reserve all for ourselves.
I’ve had a busy couple of days. I have been working on a project but it’s not quite done yet, so I decided to make a quick card to share. Well it didn’t turn out so quick because I just wasn’t finding a sentiment I liked for the card.
I did have fun using the new Catherine Pooler Designs Hip Hearts set & new ink colors. I figured I’d make a card similar to one of the samples Catherine created.
After searching for a bit, I finally settled on a sentiment in Well Hello from My Favorite Things and I added a few Romance sequins also new from Catherine Pooler.
Sometimes what you think you want to create just doesn’t quite gel with what you have on hand to create with.
It was nice to take a few days off & just chill. I have been working on our holiday charity cards a bit, planning some new creations & got the house decorated for Christmas but overall just chillin’.
A couple of weeks ago a special postage gift came in for the Troop cards which required a special thank-you. Two in fact. One for the organization and one for the individual who recommended our Troop work. That gift made a big difference in the 9 boxes we shipped for the holidays.
I used Picket Fence Studios Slimline Floral stencil, My Favorite Things Thank-you die and Taylored Expressions Big Thanks stamp set.
For this card I used Elizabeth Craft’s Leaf Pattern Background cover plate die with the Thanks from Taylored Expressions and Taylored’s Big Thanks stamp set.
It has been such a blessing this year working with the many individuals supporting Cards for the Troops. I cannot say thank-you enough for all the cards and supplies that have come in. For now we are on a temporary hold until we find out if the Troop draw down will affect the unit we send too.
I fought the Oklahoma winds today to get a picture of Monday’s class. Duct tape helps.
I designed the winter themed 12 x 12 collage for our frames. I started with one idea & it turned into another.
I love how it came out.
It’s mainly a variety of die cuts from a variety of companies and some ink blending and lots of Stickles. I know the snowflake corners are hard to see in this picture but the lettering & these are in white glitter paper. There’s definitely sparkle.
Look for posts every few days for the next couple of weeks. I am working hard to get our next batches of charity cards completed. I do plan to squeak in a wee bit of creating but it’s crunch time.
