The sunflowers from Sweet n’ Sassy Stamps Like a Sunflower set were just perfect for September. They are not one of my favorite flowers, hubby is severely allergic to them, but this set is just charming. I also don’t like their big brown centers. If you know me, I’m just not a huge brown fan. I tried brown on these, it didn’t make me happy, so I tore it up, reprinted, re-stamped and settled on using green & bronze for my centers. Don’t be afraid to toss something & start again. Most of the time it’s just a few cents worth of cardstock & a bit more time.
October features Penny Black’s Stitched Flowers. I settled on orange to play off the more traditional pumpkin colors we see in the fall.
I was busy watercoloring and almost forgot to post.
I am going to try & make my posts earlier in the day. In true artist fashion, schedules and me are not friends but I’m working on it.
Tonight’s beauty is my oldest daughter and son-in-law’s anniversary card. I haven’t worked in white on white for awhile so dug into my pearlescent papers to create their card.
I used Penny Black’s Layered Scene dies and Creative-Expressions Happy Anniversary Mini Shadowed Sentiments dies. The different patterns in the pearlescent paper offer interest and contrast which gives the white on white depth and keeps it from looking flat.
If you are creating in white on white different white patterns is the key to a great card. You can use variations between smooth & textured by using patterned papers and embossing folders. Silver can add enough contrast for a sentiment to stand out and still keep the card very monotone. Have fun with it and experiment with different tone on tone colors too.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions about tone on tone or if you try this technique to share your creation. I’d love to see your artwork. You can also add it to the comments on my MeWe or Facebook pages for this card.
I fought the Oklahoma winds today to get a picture of Monday’s class. Duct tape helps.
I designed the winter themed 12 x 12 collage for our frames. I started with one idea & it turned into another.
I love how it came out.
It’s mainly a variety of die cuts from a variety of companies and some ink blending and lots of Stickles. I know the snowflake corners are hard to see in this picture but the lettering & these are in white glitter paper. There’s definitely sparkle.
Look for posts every few days for the next couple of weeks. I am working hard to get our next batches of charity cards completed. I do plan to squeak in a wee bit of creating but it’s crunch time.
A typical Monday even with packing for retreat except for the migraine that slowed me down a bit. I’m definitely not a big fan of time crunches but almost always it turns out okay. So the packing will get finished tomorrow & the van loaded.
The Taylored Expressions Sketchbook Flowers set has 3 flowers & my goal was to create at least 3 cards. Mission accomplished. Today’s is softly elegant with the rose flower.
I wanted a more organic background so I pulled out Penny Black’s Petite Blossoms stencil. The sentiment is from the TE Field Notes stamp set.
I hope you enjoyed this short series and you were inspired with some creative ideas.
If I have time between packing tomorrow, I have a new idea waiting in the wings.
As most of you know, I have been working with Cards for the Troops for many years. It is one of my favorite encouragement projects especially since we are a retired Air Force family. My husband has always called it a multiple blessing. We get to make cards to send to the troops, the troops know we care about them & their families, their families are blessed when they receive that precious happy mail from their service member.
We have a special challenge going on this month on the Let’s Make Cards group on Facebook. That challenge is to make patriotic themed holiday cards for our annual holiday shipment. Of course everyone is welcome to make any style of holiday cards they would like but we thought it would be fun to throw some red/white/blue into the mix.
I thought it would also be a great way for me to share some ideas & get a few cards made myself for the shipment. While searching for ideas for the theme I saw an image with red/white/blue holiday trees. I knew exactly what I wanted to use to make this card.
Penny Black’s Tall Trees are just a fun pine tree shape and a great size. While looking at my dies, I thought it also would be fun to use PB Curved Stitch for the snowy hill and the holiday sentiment is from PB Holiday Hello & I didn’t search for where greetings came from. My dies desperately need reorganized.
We are pretty limited by restrictions on what can be used on our cards so I plan to showcase easy designs with a lot of interest to them. It doesn’t have to be flashy to be a great card.
Popping in to share the card I made for the Paper Craft Artist inspiration sketch. This is a classic easy sketch that can have multiple looks depending on occasion & supplies.
I actually took a couple of days off from the studio despite the fact that my worktop still needs several things put back in order. So since my space is a bit crowded I decided something fun & quick was in order. I actually saw the colors used on the recent Simon Says Stamp Blog Hop featuring their new Cheer & Joy release. I love fun holiday color combos so here is my card:
Yep I actually have a couple of items from the new release. Isn’t the Simon Says Stamp Gnome cute? I may have to reconsider ordering the gnome stencil too. Now if you know me well I only like certain gnomes. If they are of the “travel” variety they are as bad as clowns to some people. The cute ones with just a nose peeking out are more my style. The sentiment is from Penny Black’s new Merry Up stamp set & the patterned paper is from Penny Black’s Holiday Trimmings paper pad.
If you have some time, pick a challenge of your choice & see what you can create.
I have a National Craft Month Challenge to myself to post everyday in March. Some of those postings will be on Facebook, some here on the blog & there will be a live video or two also.
Working my way back into sharing now that I am more recovered from surgery. What was a simple surgery to open up my airways, turned a bit more complicated when a mass was found to be blocking the airways (benign, thank-you Lord!), and then finding out this week that the reason it’s taking so long to heal is apparently I had an anesthesiologist who decided to tear up the roof of my mouth suctioning during surgery. Eating & swallowing has been most difficult to say the least. Thankful to finally be on the mend, understand why, blessed the mass wasn’t serious & working my way to purge the studio more, organize & play with lots of crafty new goodies!
Let’s take a look at today’s card. One of my favorites from our birthday class but was a bit tricky to fussy cut as I decided not to purchase the die when I got it. If you like it, purchase the die, LOL!
This a Pinterest case modified of course because I can. We also created a small set of these for the troops.
Cut a card base from Grape Fusion cardstock 4 1/4″ x 11″ and fold in half.
Cut a mat out of Whip Cream cardstock 4″ x 5 1/4″. Stamp with the Border Line stamp from Spellbinders in Black Licorice.
Stamp My Favorite Things Beautiful Bloom onto Grape Fusion cardstock with clear pigment ink & gold emboss. Die or fussy cut out and trim in half down the middle. Adhere to card as shown.
Stamp sentiment from Penny Black Sprinkles & Smiles set in Grape Fusion in card center, clean stamp & restamp in clear pigment ink & emboss with custom clear embossing & Sparkle Dust mixture.
The Events page has been updated with the March classes, take a peek & join us in studio for some creativity.
I hope this month’s shares will inspire your creativity during National Craft Month.
Sometimes trying to figure out my schedule timing is a bit of work depending on if the week has a lot of out of the house appts & errands like last week or is middle of the road like this week. Since my schedule flexes quite a bit, choosing a time to post & do videos consistently just doesn’t work. So I am trying to go back to a weekly goal of regular posting & videos & then I’ll see where the time allows each week to meet that goal. So I may post at midnight tonight & 9 am in a couple of days. Going with the flow.
I had lots of fun creating this card with the January My Favorite Things release. I have lots of new MFT product to play with, now I need lots of time to do the creating. I absolutely love the Lots of Heart stencil. I used it on my Love canvas that I posted recently. Let’s take a look:
We made this card for Angel Club last month and the bonus was everyone got to take home the extra trees they cut out in the other colors to create more cards with.
Cut a card base from Grape Fusion Cardstock 4 1/4″ x 11″ & fold in half.
Using a 4″ x 5 1/4″ Whip Cream mat, position your stencil over the mat & secure with some washi tape or magnets. Apply Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink about 2/3rds down the mat from the top. Apply Wilted Violet Distress Oxide ink about 2/3rds up from the bottom of the mat to create the deeper purple center on the mat when the 2 inks combine. Adhere to card base.
Cut a stitched oval mat from Turbo Teal cardstock using Journey Ovals.
Cut Heart Tree 3 times from Grape Fusion, Electric Lime & Cosmic Grape cardstocks & piece together as desired. (Note: Cosmic Grape cardstock is no longer available,) Adhere to oval. Highlight some areas on the tree with Sparkle Dust.
Cut Penny Black love sentiment from Black Licorice cardstock & attach over tree.
Pop oval up onto card base.
Have a Fabulous Week & I’ll pop back in soon with another great project.
Welcome to 2019! I am wishing you love, joy, laughter & tons of inspiration & creativity in the new year! I am definitely looking forward to sharing more inspiration with you!
And speaking of more inspiration, last year I chose to carry the word Joy over from 2017 & pair it with Inspiration for my 2018 words of the year. Not only was I able to post lots of inspiration, I was refreshed & inspired more too. So let’s take a look at my 2019 word……
LOVE – yep I’m going to have fun with this years word too. While we were in Branson recently, I spotted a sign I wanted for the studio but since we were Christmas shopping bypassed it. Well while I was shopping in the Scrapbook store, hubby went back & got it for me for my Christmas stocking. It has Van Gogh’s quote hand painted on it by a young artist that says “I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.” This sums up my love of creating & Sassy AngelS Studio, sharing artwork to brighten others day. Whether I am sharing something online with you, teaching in studio, creating Cards for the Troops, Salvation Army or Feed His Sheep, sharing art with my granddaughter or making a special gift, it’s all to share love, encouragement, hope & inspiration.
Today’s card was made during the Fun Stampers Journey December Follow Your Heart event. While we were watching the show, they demoed using the heart stencil over the patterned paper so I created this card using that technique with the Angels.
Let’s take a look at how it was created.
Cut a card base from Tin Pail cardstock 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ & fold in half. Emboss card front with the I Heart embossing folder.
Trim a patterned strip 1 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ from the Follow Your Heart Prints. Sponge heart pattern over the strip using the Heart Wall stencil, Turbo Teal ink & sponge daubers.
Trim a mat piece for the strip 2 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ from Turbo Teal cardstock and adhere patterned strip to mat and attach to card base.
Die cut Penny Black Soft Caress in Lemon Grass cardstock. Using the Love Is punch, punch hearts from blue glitter paper & adhere over heart flowers on die cut. Adhere to card.
Die cut small purple glitter hearts using the Heart Strip Die & adhere to edges of card.
Stamp sentiment from the Cottage Bouquet stamp set on Tin Pail cardstock square in Black Licorice. Clean stamp & stamp again in Clear Pigment ink. Emboss with custom Journey Clear embossing powder & Sparkle Dust mix. Pop up on card.
Look for class updates in the next couple of days. I am in full out purge, organize & clean mode for the New Year so haven’t updated everything yet.
