We had a great class today & even got a couple hundred more troop cards processed!
I had fun designing this astronaut card from Sweet n’ Sassy Stamps Over the Moon set. The planets & stars made a great background on a Distress spray panel. The sentiment is from an old FSJ set.
After checking out a new show with hubby after dinner, I cleaned up the studio & organized the troop cards into their categories. Going to be spending a good part of this week figuring out what I am taking on retreat next week. I always pack too much but at least we have a kitchen sink at the retreat house so that can stay home.
One more card to share from this fun class. Stay tuned.
Everyone is going to have fun creating in tomorrow’s Young at Heart class because I had so much fun designing for it. I just picked out a handful of stamps & started playing with no real plan in mind.
Tonight’s card did take a bit of work with die cutting but it came out so cute. It features the new My Favorite Things Car Pool & On The Road Die-namics & Better Together Stamp set.
The card kit comes with an idea sheet & I really like the polka dot car so I picked out a couple of happy colors & started designing. It looked a bit blah against a plain cardstock background so I pulled out Sweet n’ Sassy Texture Tiles 5 set as it had the perfect size polka dots for the background to tie it all together. The word “trails” came from CZ Design Happy Days from Simon Says Stamp.
The really fun thing about the Better Together stamp set is there are so many cute critters to choose from to drive the car.
I hope your Monday has been a great start to the week.
We were busy with car repairs. Apparently it wasn’t just my battery, it was the starter too. Then hubby went out to go to work & his battery was dead. So he took the day off to repair both cars.
I finished up my Bible Journaling page that I started a week ago. I remembered to do a before shot right after I stamped the first flower here.
The coloring on this page is the bleed through of the distress inks I used on the other side & it is so pretty. It features Psalm 135 which has a lot of wonderful praise verses about God’s greatness and the many things He had done for Israel & for us.
The watercolor effect called for some flowers so I just played with several different sets from Sweet n’ Sassy Stamps. I used Marker Alpha, Whimsy Bouquet, Fall in Love with Jesus, Happy Day, The Lord’s Battle, Words of Life: Actions, Amazing Grace and Consider the Wildflowers. Sometimes you just need to play & have fun. Is it a perfect page, nope but it is a heartfelt page.
Mondays are my heavy home cleaning day but I did manage to pop out the door quick enough to tell one of my package delivery people “thank-you” before they made it back to their truck. I imagine a lot don’t receive many thanks during the day. It’s just a small kindness & I hope it made the drivers day.
I didn’t get any art done yesterday so was going to post some organization & troop progress & then my phone decided to freeze up for about an hour. So I figured I’d head to bed & see what today brought.
We had a mini Bible study and some journaling over on the Creative Worship Bible Journaling group this afternoon. Our study was on peace. Goodness knows there’s been a lot of unrest in the world lately. Thankfully as believers in the Way, our peace comes from our relationship with God.
We had 8 verses we went over and our instructor chose Philippians 4:4-8 to journal. Since I had previously journaled that page, I hopped over to John 14:27 to create my page on peace. Jesus is speaking to the disciples, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” NIV
This page also would have been perfect for Isaiah 26:3 You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. ESV
Life may be a challenge right now, but if I keep my eyes fixed on God and trust in His plan, then I will have peace, hope & confidence that no matter what happens God is in control and with me. Some days it’s harder than others but thankfully God doesn’t give up on us easily.
I used Simon Says Stamp Tumbling Leaves stencil, Sweet n’ Sassy True Beauty and Way Maker stamps with Distress Oxides and Micron pen for the hand lettering.
Tonight’s card was created for my Son-in-law Dustin’s birthday today. I challenged myself to use just Sweet n’ Sassy stamps. I love being able to mix it up with all the wonderful companies but it’s also fun to try & use just one company’s product. This card will also be featured in my masculine card class.
I’ve been inspired to do a bit more collage type work since I participated in the My Heart’s Fancy Quarantine Art Challenge back in May. It’s something I enjoyed doing in the past, finding stamps that would make cool designs together. It’s fun to revisit old techniques & styles. I went hunting for some ideas on Pinterest & a couple of collage style cards popped up so I set about recreating one.
I used a dark blue, medium blue & gray ink for the collage elements from Sweet n’ Sassy Texture Tiles 1 and Gear Up. The pocket watch is from Time Well Spent & is embossed with a custom mixed hematite embossing powder that believe it or not is over 10 years old. If you take care of your supplies, they can last a long time. With embossing powders is important to protect them from dampness & humidity. The Happy Birthday sentiment is from Beautiful Birds. I added in some gear die cuts for more interest.
The card was a hit & allowed Dustin to pull out his pocket watch & show my oldest granddaughter that’s how we used to tell time.
I am working late again. I have several projects in the works but just wanted to play with something a bit different.
I wanted to create a faux peek-a-boo layer. I love the cards with the bit of pattern peeking out from a layer underneath but I wanted to see if I could create it as a one layer in black & white. Now despite my years of experience not everything goes smoothly and it took 3 tries to get this the way I wanted.
I used Sweet n’ Sassy’s Blessings in Disguise stamp set. It has this beautiful dandelion fluff type flower. I created the lines first with a Zig writing pen, used postie type notes to mask it off and then stamped my flower. I almost had it on my 2nd try but didn’t leave quite enough room for the word blessing & when I stamped it, you couldn’t see it well.
I think this will make a great happy mail piece. I hope you remember each day is truly a blessing. We can focus on the negatives in life or we can focus on the positives. Let’s focus on the positives. We can always find something to bring some joy, make us laugh or share a smile with someone. Let’s be encouraging & kind. We truly have a lot to be thankful for.
In everything givethanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Think about some things you are thankful for each day and share some kindness along the way.
Almost didn’t make today’s post as I wrestled with a migraine for about 36 hours, then I just feel drained. But even moving slow I decided to tackle the challenge from the Creative Worship Bible Journaling group.
We were challenged to create bookmarks to share with others. I think we are going to start seeing a lot of kindness initiatives in the coming months. It’s been a challenging year to say the least & sharing encouragement, love & kindness will make a big difference to our neighbors & our fellow brothers & sisters in Christ.
I made 2 cards & bookmark sets to go out as Happy Mail this week & a bookmark for me. I used the new True Beauty Stamp set from Sweet n’ Sassy Stamps along with the sentiment on the reverse of the bookmark from the Faith set. The embossing folder for the cards is Memory Box Chrysanthemum Field.
I am actually working on a small stack of happy mail to send out this week along with our July shipment of Troop cards.
I challenge you to join in the kindness movement & do something nice for someone this week. Maybe a phone call, a card, a small surprise, just a little bit of something to let someone know you care.
If you haven’t guessed it already, my word for 2020 is Possibilities. I will be revamping my art & studio over the course of 2020. Teaching a few less classes, creating in different mediums, mixing it up a bit, sharing more inspiration & encouragement and art tips & techniques.
Our charity work is growing with more Cards for the Troops to send and more Christmas cards to make for our local charities. Since this is an important part of the studio to be able to give back to our community, it will take on a bit more of a prominent roll.
I am also taking a month or so off of teaching to allow the tendonitis in my right elbow to heal up. I’m right handed so the more I do, the more it will stay inflamed so a bit of rest is in order. I will still be creating art almost daily just on a smaller scale for a few weeks. Not doing so much prep work with classes & events will allow some extra healing time.
Today’s card is a New Beginning. Each day is filled with possibilities, make the most of the day you are given, share some joy & a smile with the world.
I used emboss resist with My Favorite Things Card Sized Star Confetti Stencil and Distress Oxides. The sentiment is from Sweet n’ Sassy stamps Inspirational Word Art 1.
I hope you will stay tuned for the adventures 2020 holds in store for the studio.
Wishing you a blessed & creative New Year full of possibilities.
