Fall Cards for The Troops

Hi Angels!

I have been working hard getting the fall shipment ready of Troop cards. The fall shipment includes fall themed cards in no sentiments, thank-yous, happy fall and Thanksgiving cards.

The AngelS & I have been processing cards as they come in & today I finished the last few that arrived while we were on retreat. There are 3 boxes heading out containing 1012 cards!

With an average of 2600 cards coming in each month, we stay pretty busy processing cards. It should taper off a bit with the last of our holiday push on the horizon. This picture is just part of the cards ready to go. There are already 6 boxes packed for the winter holidays plus everyday cards. The 2 priority boxes are already being filled with the next batch of holiday cards.

I am so glad hubby had me get the bankers boxes as I was running out of containers for all the cards!

Cards for the Troops is purely a labor of love. Being retired military & having lived through years of deployments, I know how exciting it is to receive a piece of mail from your loved one when they are gone. The holidays are extra special and this year we will be able to send quite a few to help our service members stay in touch.

The AngelS & I are blessed so many card makers around the country are participating in this important ministry. They have the joy of making the cards, the Troops know we are thinking of them & their families, and the families are thrilled to hear from their loved ones via old fashioned snail mail.

Blessed to be a Blessing!

Star Shine

Hi Angels!

We had a great class today & even got a couple hundred more troop cards processed!

I had fun designing this astronaut card from Sweet n’ Sassy Stamps Over the Moon set. The planets & stars made a great background on a Distress spray panel. The sentiment is from an old FSJ set.

After checking out a new show with hubby after dinner, I cleaned up the studio & organized the troop cards into their categories. Going to be spending a good part of this week figuring out what I am taking on retreat next week. I always pack too much but at least we have a kitchen sink at the retreat house so that can stay home.

One more card to share from this fun class. Stay tuned.

Troop Work & Hugs

Hi Angels!

It has been a very long day. The Angels & I worked many hours processing almost 1150 troop cards. I put in 9.5 hours myself. Whew!

Here is a look at both sides of the table after all our hard work. This is only part of what we got done. I got this packed into boxes ready for the holiday shipment coming up.

Despite the many hours of work, I decided to create a quick 10 minute card. I pulled a couple of die cuts off my work top. The “Hugs” is from My Favorite Things and the flower from happy mail. I picked out a background I had embossed awhile ago, added a card base & fast card.

All the Angels deserve a huge hug for all their help today! Many thanks! This is our favorite kindness project, providing cards for the troops to send home.

Time for some sleep.

Cards, Cards for the Troops, Taylored Expressions

Sketchbook Floral

Hi Angels!

Whew! It’s been a busy day. I spent almost 7 hours working on Cards for the Troops with the help of the Angels for about 5.5 hours of the day. Makes for some good visiting time while we work. We processed over 670 cards today.

I created a relatively fast card tonight using the new Field Notes kit from Taylored Expressions featuring the Sketchbook Florals stamp set.

This is when it pays to have a stash of watercolor/spray type backgrounds on hand and these two paired lovely together. A quick cut oval, a couple of stamps and instant card perfect to brighten someone’s day.

Don’t forget to do something kind everyday this week. The world can certainly use a few more smiles and good surprises.

Cards, Cards for the Troops, Slim Line Cards

Moonlit Gathering

Hi Angels!

I successfully had a play day today after spending lots of time working on the Troop cards this week. Which is good because the next couple of days are going to be busy and I really get cranky when I don’t get some creative time in. I have always said creating is as essential as breathing for me.

I will be hosting a slim line card class in August plus I have a challenge on the Let’s Make Card list to create some slim line holiday cards for the Troops so I’m playing with some designs.

I was looking for a particular product recently and of course had to check out what was new and spotted a couple of beautiful stamps by Creative Expressions. Tonight’s card features Moonlit Gathering.

It’s just gorgeous with some simple Distress Oxide blending. You have to look close to spot all the animals and it’s so neat how this silhouette image is designed.

I completed 2 projects today, started a third and did some leg work for a fourth. Overall not a bad creative day and I got some sunshine on a walk with hubby and Reilly our dog. It’s unusually cool for late July in Oklahoma. Fresh air, sunshine & art, what more could a girl ask for.

Have a Fabulous Weekend and do something fun for yourself!

Let’s Be Mermaids

Hi Angels!

I am trying to rework my schedule so I ran out of time to create & post yesterday. Some of you know part of my ministry work is sharing cards for the Troops to send home to their families. We are in the middle of the holiday push and I received in 1136 cards last week and this was today’s mail …….

Yep 6 packages. I would have had them opened and counted but we had a power outage earlier today. I am scheduling troop work hours into my week and thankfully the AngelS help a lot. I was working on part of last weeks arrivals yesterday and simply did not get anything created. The Troops are going to have lots of choices over the fall/winter holidays.

Tonight I made some time to create. I discovered a new made in the USA company about 2 months ago called Sassy and Crafty Stamps. As much as I can I am supporting small businesses & US made. These stamps are so fun! For tonight’s card I used Salty but Sweet.

I used a Gel Press background mop up piece and embossed & watercolored the mermaid. And since life has been so upside down lately I figured “I’m done adulting” was the perfect sentiment to use.

I hope you have a fabulous week!

Don’t forget to spread some kindness and brighten someone’s day!

Kindness Bloom

Hi Angels!

Busy day today! We had our first in studio class in 6 weeks and we got a few hundred troop cards processed & ready for the next mailing. My home team AngelS are amazing!

I thought a kindness card was a perfect way to end the day.

I used Unity Stamp Company’s new Words in Bloom stamp set. I watercolored the flower for easy color. A couple of die cuts and it’s a simple elegant card with heart.

Have you spread a little kindness lately? If not, this week is the perfect time to bring a smile to a friend or even a stranger. I know a lot of us still aren’t venturing out much but even a simple thank-you can make someone’s day so much better.

“No act of kindness however small is ever wasted.”

Classic Christmas Plaid

Hi Angels!

It’s another fast card tonight. Busy day cleaning & prepping the next batch of troop cards to mail. There are 945 everyday cards heading out tomorrow to our unit. Yay!

I grabbed my new Paper Rose Merry & Bright die, some leftover holiday plaid from another project and tonight’s card was classic & quick. I can see using this die in a variety of holiday colors. Plus it comes with the matching solid outline for more versatility.

This will make a great troop card since I didn’t add any sparkle & it’s fairly flat making it easier to travel through the mail.

I hope you have a fantastic week! Don’t forget to share some extra kindness & encouragement!

Poinsettia Border

Hi Angels!

Hope you’re enjoying the weekend!

I did a nod to the red, white & blue July Holiday Extravaganza for the Troops challenge today. It needed to be a quick card since Saturdays are usually date night & we had a little extra adventure planned.

What the picture does not show is the poinsettia flowers have just a touch of blue at the tips & a hint of yellow in the centers. I used a little Panpastels to add the color. The Poinsettia Border Die is from Paper Rose. A quick sentiment & instant card.

I will have a Troops update tomorrow or Monday. It is such a blessing to have such wonderful support for our service members & their families.

Thanks for popping by!

Jolly Snowman

Hi Angels!

It’s time for another holiday card in red, white & blue for our Holiday in July Extravaganza for the Troops.

July is a good time to look at your 4th of July paper kits to see if there are any papers that will work for the winter holiday season. Plaids, polka dots, stripes, stars & hearts are all universal patterns that can work well any time of the year for any occasion. One such kit provided the patterned paper I needed to today’s card.

One of our group members sent some Troop holiday cards with this fun snowman die from Creative Expressions. I knew he existed, I just wasn’t quite sold on picking him up for my collection. As you can see after seeing the cards in person made with him, I now have my own die.

Isn’t the plaid paper from the Photoplay Land of the Free collection just perfect behind him? It definitely gives that cozy winter feeling to our red, white & blue theme. The sentiment is from My Favorite Things Christmas sELFies stamp set.

Have you tried a patriotic holiday card yet?

Thanks for popping by!
