I know it’s been a few days. I didn’t expect when I moved my desk how much got displaced & needed reorganized. Then add in it’s my worst allergy time & well….
I listened to another video from the Shine Retreat a couple of nights ago and recreated this page based on John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
The page is water colored in Twinkling H2O’s and edged with Black Soot Distress Ink to represent the darkness. I stamped the lantern on a scrap of watercolored background and colored with glitter gel pens. I used 5 different Sweet ‘n Sassy stamp sets to stamp my saying & the lantern. I used Shine Your Light, Way Maker, Fall in Love with Jesus, Teeny Alpha and Sweet & Simple Alpha.
It was wonderful to spend a few minutes creating today.
Last weekend also hosted the Creative Worship Bible Journaling group’s Shine Retreat. Because Crop & Create was so intense, I only got to create 2 of the workshops & a couple of prayer sessions.
Since Crop & Create provided us with more foiling tips from Therm-o-web, I created a Faithdex card with the retreat’s focal verse & foiling.
Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
For the ray background I used the free printable from Allie Scraps, a diecut of the word Shine from Elizabeth Craft cut out with mounting tape & foiled, Sweet ‘n Sassy’s Shine Your Light stamp set & hand lettered verse.
I plan to spend a good portion of this week doing some more of the Bible Journaling Workshops.
We got several more inches of snow over night to add to our current winter wonderland. I missed creating last night but the weather does sometimes bring on migraines unfortunately.
Tonight’s card features the negative background from Monday’s Light of Faith card. If I think there is enough ink on the stencil when I am done blending, I will spritz with water & print on another piece of cardstock. This one came out like a soft watercolor.
The owl from Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps Owl Be There is stamped on a brayered gel print background from my stash and lends himself well to the slightly grungy details the Grunge Dots stencil left on the background. I added more dots with SNSS Texture Tiles 8 and the sentiment is from Faith Phrases.
Fun, colorful and a great reminder of where our focus should always be.
If I don’t post much for a few days, not to worry, we may have to shut down part of our house as we have reached the red line 20% level on our propane tank. If the truck doesn’t get here in the next couple of days with the propane shortage, we may be relying on space heaters & the fireplace for warmth providing we have electricity still too.
20 years ago we did 3 days no power in an ice storm with just a gas fireplace, wasn’t easy but we made it through. We will again.
Hopefully you are starting to unthaw from this week’s intense cold or will in the next couple of days. Many prayers if it’s still heading your way or you are without power. Try your best to stay safe & warm.
Our temperatures are still really cold but there was some beautiful sunshine today before snowmageddon round 2 arrives. I know many are already struggling to get through these storms especially with the power & water outages.
We have zoned heating & hubby perfected the balance enough today that I could spend a wee bit of time in the studio. We are mostly keeping it shut off to conserve but with the sunshine helping to warm I could work a bit. I did a couple of different backgrounds but this one was my main focus for creating today.
My new Sweet ‘n Sassy order arrived Saturday so I wanted to create something with the new stencils. This card features the Grunge Dots stencil with the new Faith & Hope word dies and the Faith stamp set that has been available for awhile. I just love how it came out.
This winter storm may be a trial but keep your eyes focused on God, especially in the dark & He will bring you through to the light.
I have slowly been curbing my spending however I am still celebrating my birthday all year so I splurged a little and got this fabulous die from the Crafty Meraki. Plus I do enjoy supporting small businesses and American made.
If you know me well, butterflies have been my symbol all my life so naturally I like the more unique things and this die is definitely unique. The background is hand dyed paper I made quite awhile back. I am thinking a hand dyed paper session is in order again this year. The sentiments are from Sweet ‘n Sassy God is Bigger stamp set.
This is another great encouragement card for someone who needs a little light and encouragement. Keep seeking those who could use a little joy and hope in their lives and do a little something special for them.
Wednesday may become my new favorite day of the week around here. I scheduled it for working on classes but I think it’s been a good day just to chill & puddle around the house doing whatever.
After doing some prep work for another project, I decided to try out my shimmering watercolors on black cardstock.
Not bad for a first try, the shimmer is really pretty against the black. I may switch shimmering colors next time to a different brand. I used Sweet ‘n Sassy Encouraging Peonies with My Favorite Things Words of Inspiration (retired).
I know on my friends list & art groups there are quite a few people asking for prayers for various life events. Don’t forget to make yourself a note to pray for those you know & perhaps you can make a card of encouragement to send to them too. It may just bring the smile they need during a difficult time.
A little late night creating a Faithdex card in bright colors. I just love rich vibrant color.
I promised myself more Bible Journaling & Faith based Art this year. Things to inspire, bring hope, share joy, and share a bit of God’s light. I think this Faithdex card is just right.
I used Sweet ‘n Sassy stamps The Future and Long Stem Silhouettes sets with a beautiful color blend of Distress Oxides.
Corrie Ten Boom’s life is such an inspiration. It’s true that if you look back over your life, you will see things that happened you may not have been sure of at the time, or thought were a big trial turn into wisdom & testimony for others when the time was right. Our experiences very much prepare us for our future lives.
May you find a little time this week to marvel at God’s work in your life.
One goal for this year is more Bible Journaling & Bible art.
I actually sketched this design out the week of Christmas but didn’t start working on it until a week ago. I often sketch during church service and there was some point in the message that inspired this page.
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12.
Since my Twinkling H2O’s were still out, I painted the page with them so with the shimmer the picture is a bit difficult. I hand drew the page then decided the “sun” needed to represent the world. I hunted up some clipart and resized it to fit the spot. It’s fairly easy to trace through the page in my Interleaved Bible. Interleaved means every other page is blank front & back, perfect for large size Bible art.
Creative Tip: Watercolor means pretty wet wrinkly pages. I do use a heat gun to help dry throughout but the page is still fairly wrinkled. I have a Clover mini iron and decided to see if it would smooth down the page a bit. I used a thin tea towel between the iron & the page & I think it did a pretty decent job. It’s not perfectly smooth, I don’t expect it to be but it definitely made a difference.
There has been a great deal of unrest the past year and we will most likely see more in the year ahead. We are to keep our eyes on God, point to His light, love others and stand for His truth & justice. If what you stand for doesn’t line up with His Word & truth, you might want to consider a heart check. He is always waiting for us to call on Him.
