Today we began the 2 day journey home. It’s been a fabulous trip so far but it will be nice to be home too.
Today’s card is one we often hope we don’t need to make but is always good to have on hand.
I had cut an extra gel print background floral from the Focus Florals card I posted a couple of days ago and decided it would work great for this card design. I again used Taylored Expressions Masking Circle stencil and I stamped the Taylored Gathered Greenery background stamp over the circle mask. I found a couple of stitched circles in my dies to create the frame, added the MFT In Focus Floral die cut and a sentiment from Taylored Simple Strips Background set.
When creating a variety of cards quickly, I will often check out Pinterest ideas when my initial design ideas fade a bit or I am looking for something a bit different.
Tonight’s card fits that bill, just a little quirky in design but still beautiful.
I used My Favorite Things In Focus Florals & In Focus Floral Frames dies plus Itty Bitty Basics stamp set. I also used a Gel Print for the background & one floral die cut. The splatters give it a more mixed media look.
We are on the last 4 days of our trip. We added a day and are taking a side trip to visit family. We are tired but are having so much fun and enjoying so many sites.
Today is our 43rd wedding anniversary and we are having fun exploring South Dakota. You can find updates on our trip adventures on my regular Facebook page.
Today’s card would work great for the guys.
The neutral colors are perfect for several occasions. I used Taylored Expressions Shiplap Background and My Favorite Things In Focus Florals with a sentiment from Fluttering Friends.
Baby Yoda helped me find a small art & crafts shop in Spearfish South Dakota called The Knothole that had a small selection of paper art supplies including Graphic 45 kits. It’s fun supporting local businesses & I did pick up a couple of Graphic 45 items and a couple of other things.
If you haven’t seen the new card kit from My Favorite Things Stamps yet, you should check out the wonderful floral images.
Todays card features the MFT In Focus Floral Frames from the kit.
I used a stencil & Salvaged Patina Distress oxide for the background for a tone on tone effect. I then cut the florals from some watercolor background paper and added a sentiment from Taylored Expressions Simple Strips Background.
Today was the big 60! I had a quiet birthday packing for our South Dakota trip tomorrow. So ready to travel & enjoy some of God’s wonderful creation!
I think it’s appropriate that I share this fun birthday card I created today on my birthday.
I did a partial stenciling of the diamonds and then added the sentiments & bling. The Happy Birthday sentiment is from Catherine Pooler Designs Little Something Sentiments set. I used My Favorite Things Stamps Anything but Basic Birthday & Bitty Birthday Wishes for the other 2 sentiments.
Yesterday was hubby’s birthday, so we actually went to town Friday all day for some shopping & dinner. So yesterday we moved my desk into the studio & I now some more re-organizing to do. Thus no art posts for 2 days.
Today I finished the 2 cards I started for our granddaughters for Easter. They have foiled backgrounds which were hard to capture but came out cute.
I used Therm-o-web’s egg toner card fronts in purple & rainbow and added My Favorite Things Wish You Were Here and the sentiment is from Sweet ‘n Sassy Hoppy Spring.
We enjoyed the day with our daughter, son-in-law & granddaughters including an egg hunt in the front yard, some legos from grammy & papa & dinner.
They were really happy to find chocolate in their eggs.
Today we booked our anniversary trip for May. So excited.
It’s also our oldest son’s & his bride’s 1st anniversary. I delivered their card a couple of days ago.
As I may have mentioned, I am in a couple of virtual retreats this coming weekend. The Crop & Create Weekend sent a sponsors goody bag along with our class kits. Therm-O-Web included a fun heart toner card front that I used to create Matthew & April’s card.
The foiling came out fabulous! I used Brutus Monroe’s Purple Sketch foil created by Therm-O-Web. The Love is an older Die-namic from My Favorite Things and is cut from purple metallic paper and the vellum background is Grafix Platinum which also has a shimmer to it. The sentiment is from Sweet ‘n Sassy’s Anniversary Blessings stamp set and is embossed in WOW Sugared Almond which has glitter in it. Overall it is a very sparkly card.
When I get the chance, I need to spend some more time foiling, it is so fun.
This week in February has all the birthdays I need to make cards for in the same week.
Our youngest son’s birthday was Tuesday and since my guys don’t like any fuss made for their birthdays I opted for a simple geometric design. Of course he probably would have been happier if I’d skip the card but hey, it’s what I do. BTW – my “baby” is now 27 years old. I don’t feel like the 60 I will turn soon so the age of my kids seems a bit unreal.
I don’t play with geometrics nearly enough. When My Favorite Things re-released their Trendy Triangles set, I knew I wanted it for my collection. The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Birthday Sweets set. True to my favorite clean & simple designs, I opted for red & black on a light gray base.
Masculine cards can be difficult and geometrics can be one solution when you are creating. I don’t have sports, fishing or hunting guys in the family. My guys tend towards the technical side of things. That limits what I create in the masculine style. So geometrics, nature & vehicles are usually what I am working with.
Sometimes limited supplies can be an issue too if you are just starting out or are on a budget. Always be looking for ideas when you check out other card designs and see what you can adapt to what you already have. It’s always a good idea to start with a few stamp sets that can give you some versatility. Many suggest before purchasing, you think about the set & if you will be able to make 3 – 5 different designs with that set. And of course a good basic all around sentiment set is a must when getting started. You can always work within your budget with a little planning & thought.
Well I certainly didn’t plan on taking 3 days off from posting but my back had an agenda of it’s own this past weekend. I was able to sit for a short period of time & do some sorting in the studio but that was about it. Thankfully it’s much better today.
When you are busy catching up after a small setback you head to the infamous Bits & Pieces box for a quick card.
Classic pink & black for the win everytime. I love being able to grab a marbled background from my background box & use it for a quick card. The heart filmstrip die is an old Fun Stampers Journey die, the love die is My Favorite Things Lots of Love and is current. The little foam pink heart was on my desk and it completed a trio for my card.
I have several projects I will be working on this week that can’t be posted until they are received by the recipient but I’ll do my best to post something everyday.
Wednesday may become my new favorite day of the week around here. I scheduled it for working on classes but I think it’s been a good day just to chill & puddle around the house doing whatever.
After doing some prep work for another project, I decided to try out my shimmering watercolors on black cardstock.
Not bad for a first try, the shimmer is really pretty against the black. I may switch shimmering colors next time to a different brand. I used Sweet ‘n Sassy Encouraging Peonies with My Favorite Things Words of Inspiration (retired).
I know on my friends list & art groups there are quite a few people asking for prayers for various life events. Don’t forget to make yourself a note to pray for those you know & perhaps you can make a card of encouragement to send to them too. It may just bring the smile they need during a difficult time.
