Tonight’s card is the 2nd birthday of this week. Our youngest son’s birthday is today. Typical of all my guys, he doesn’t like any fuss over his birthday but I made this card & one of his favorite dinners.
I used the gear die from one of the Graphic 45 tag sets, the birthday die is from My Favorite Things & the embossing folder is Tim Holtz Riveted Metal.
Fairly quick to make, simple & elegant and definitely not fussy.

Tonight’s card can easily be done in 10 or so minutes & is still very elegant.
White on white with just a touch of color. What makes the card elegant is the specialty papers used. The background is done with Concord & 9th’s Snowfall Card Front die paired with Cryogen White Curious Iridescent cardstock, the glitter cardstock pieces are Sizzix Tim Holtz Woodlands & Holiday Words dies paired with a Memory Box star die.

It was a busy weekend with Miss Nora here and class yesterday.
I have been creating several things but a couple will have to wait until the items make their way to their recipients before I can show them.
Tonight’s card was created for my youngest daughter & her hubby’s anniversary card. They are celebrating 6 years this year.
When I created the blended roses background originally it just didn’t gel. Most likely because it is in color tones I don’t usually work with. So I set it aside and decided that making it a bit smaller was the best way to utilize it in a card. Now it’s perfect.
I used My Favorite Things Roses All Over background stamp, Tim Holtz/Sizzix Roses embossing folder and Taylored Expressions Simple Strips
Background sentiments.
Remember if you’ve been creating & you are not happy or being overly critical of your creation, set it aside & walk away from it for awhile, even a day or two. Then you can look at it again with fresh eyes. Often you will find it’s just fine, needs a little finessing or if you truly don’t like it, there’s the trash can, you can make it into something different, or in the case of working on canvas, paint over it and start something new. Usually it’s not a mistake, it’s just a creative detour.

I have been working on cards for our class Monday featuring Pretty Poppies. It started with one of the cards featured today that was posted a month or so ago on Facebook. A couple of the Angels just love poppies. So I decided a class was in order especially since there are so many wonderful poppy stamps available currently.
Today’s cards feature the Impression Obsession Poppy Collage stamp. I took a class up at My Hearts Fancy in OKC and we made this card:
Now this card is beautiful but all the cards in class were 5 x 7 inches and I don’t usually work that large. Plus I am pretty sure this one would cost extra to mail. So I created this card for tomorrow’s class:
Although smaller in scale at the traditional 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches, this small card is just as stunning and I like the watercoloring on it better.
So let’s take a quick comparision between the two:
One is larger, one is smaller but both include the same great design.
Both images were stamped & embossed on watercolor paper.
The larger card uses Hero Arts Liquid Watercolor. It was harder to get a richer color to the poppies with it but by taking class, I got to try it out. I take classes for my own enjoyment. Plus since I design all the time, it’s nice to take a class that someone else designed & I stay fresh on techniques & products.
The smaller uses FSJ Liquid Color which isn’t quite a watercolor but has richer pigment to it and works just like watercolor. I believe the top card has a Liquidtex Gold Metallic on the frame portion of the stamp. I dug out my old Twinkling H2O’s Egyptian Gold for the bottom card. Again both are stunning.
I am not sure the brand of foil used in the top card but the bottom is FSJ Mirror Gold. Both were embossed with Tim Holtz’s Elegant 3D Texture Fades. The top one is a bit less shiny but just as lovely.
If you study a card design, it is usually fairly easy to recreate the card with what you may already have in your craft room. Do not be afraid to change sizes to suit your project needs.
Summer is a great time to find inspiration in the bright sunny outdoors & activities. Use that inspiration to get crafty this week.
